I just purchased my first item off ebay using paypal to pay by credit card.

The shipping service is USPS Global Priority Mail.

I was wondering how the shipping works? A delivery guy comes and leaves the item at your door? Or needs you to sign papers?

    Thanks.

Need you or someone in the house to sign the paper. If your not in the house , they will leave you a note for you to pick up the goods at the nearest post office that the provide.

That depends on each country's mailing system because it is up to the post office of the country you live in.

In Canada: You will have to sign (as one of my friend told me)
In Taiwan: You don't need to sign
In US: Most of times, mailman just leave it at my door, but sometimes, it would require my signature.

As BlueJeff said, it may depend on countries. I mailed order from Taiwan and Singapore before using USPS priority mail, and they just left the parcel in front of my front door. But usually they would use my door mat to cover it so people walked by may not notice it.

yea, in canada they won't leave it.
they ring the bell, see if anyone is available to sign for it and pay for any fees.
if not, they rip off a delivery notice, leave it in mailbox or door knob, and they drop the parcel off at the post office for pick-up.

Ok, do they usually give you a call to let you know roughly what time they will be there?

Probably not, as I know so far, the part that takes longest time in international shipping is probably getting-through the custom. The actual shipping doesn't really take that long, but sometimes custom just might take up to a week!!

    Example:
I ship to VAN people very quite often, and sometimes it arrives in 4 days, but sometimes it takes 9-10 days for delivery. So, it must be the custom that held up the packages.

If you are lucky, you would found it at your front door.
Or, you may get a note from Canada Post, which mean you have to go to the post office to pick it up. Usually, you will have to pay for the service and custom tax. (One time, I got charge for 20CAN for a 50 USD table tennis paddle. What a ripe off)
