I was quite surprised when I found that she didn't have a thread of her own despite being ranked in top 15 and one of the best upcoming players.

Sevens months after Olympics, where she got injured, I haven't heard anything about her since. So did some searching and all I could find was this video of her getting hurt.

I request my Japanese friends here to please provide the status of her injury and her comeback, if you have any. Thank you!

    Wow.
Had heard of her injury at the Olympics but had not seen it until clicking on the OP's link. I almost cried watching her lying on the floor. I can't believe she got up again and tried to play!!
That woman has guts! Get better soon Sayaka.

Hope to hear from her soon and see her come back as strong as ever. She is a tireless worker on court;normally, her court movement may appear a bit untidy but very efficient. That unfortunate incident had to happen on the world's grandest stage must be devastating for her. Same for Wang Xin and I remember another Polish MD player, all distressed and distraught by injuries during the London Olympics.

Sayaka Sato just turned 22, Happy Birthday. I believe she still has a bright future ahead in badminton. Not so lucky for the 27-year-old Wang Xin,born 10 Nov 1985, losing the bronze medal and age is against her to make a good or decent comeback.

Happy Birthday! Good to see a thread being posted about her! :)

BTW: Hopefully her recovery is going well! Her twitter account suggests that she had surgery about a month after her injury.

Glad to hear she's recovering, I too had tears in my eyes seeing her trying to get up after her injury. Out of curiosity, are the any details in regards to the injury she suffered because it definitely looked knee related..

Although their names sound the same, it can have a different meaning depending on the characters used to build it up.

6 months sounds a bit soon for an ACL reconstruction. I am guessing she is about 9 months post surgery. All the best. That Olympic video was heartbreaking to see...:(

Definitely right Cheung. I am 5 months post ACL reconstructive surgery myself. I am back to playing baddy at about 80% and I'm still hesitant on some shots.

Having said that, It is great to see her back on court so soon. Hope she can regain some of that form!

Sayaka has a ways to climb up the ranking ladder as a result of her absence. She is currently ranked at #110 in WS.
