An eight-day fascinating competition of Sudirman Cup with a surprising outcome was already concluded then regular individual circuit continues to BWF Grand Prix Gold series this week, second time in Bangkok after Thailand Masters early this year. The unfavourable schedule this time, moved earlier than 2016 edition when was held in October. Host Thailand who carved excellent result in Sudirman Cup brings their full squad here, most of foreign competitors are coming from Indonesia, Malaysia and India. Korean players miss this tournament, China only brings their juniors while Japan has two representatives in women's singles category.

Men's singles top-seed Tanongsak didn't perform well last week, he's slated to meet compatriot Suppanyu Avihingsanon at last sixteen then 2012 champion Sony Dwi Kuncoro in quarterfinal. Joining top-half of the draw are newly-crowned Singapore Superseries champion also tournament third seed Sai Praneeth and Hong Kong veteran Wei Nan. On bottom half draw, Marc Zwiebler will find Indian hurdles in preliminary rounds and has possible scenario to meet Emil Holst in last sixteen. Fourth seed, Indonesian future star Jonatan Christie is expected to go further in this tournament and possibly will face either home promising player Khosit Phetpradab or reigning World Junior Champion Sun Feixiang as both of them facing each other in tonight's first round.

Women's singles department will offer interesting prospect, former world champion Ratchanok Intanon and Indian high-profile player Saina Nehwal occupy top-two seeds, barring any upsets they will meet in finale. Other familiar names in the fray are Nitchaon Jindapol, Busanan Ongbamrungphan, Michelle Li, Zhang Beiwen and world junior silver medalist Pornpawee Chochuwong.

Weak line-up for women's doubles discipline will see Kititharakul/Prajongjai are the frontrunner. Men's doubles competition comprises world number nine Astrup/Rasmussen, second seed Isara/Phuaphuapet, Rio Olympic bronze medalists Ellis/Langridge also Indonesian back-ups, Alfian/Ardianto and Angriawan/Hardianto. Home fast-improved pair Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai are strong favourite to clinch second mixed doubles crown in this season after SUI Open last March.

After the excitement of the Sudirman Cup this tournament may seem like an anti-climax. Of particular interest would be how well the host nation performs. My bet is that Sapsiree/ Dechapol may take XD. In the other disciplines Thailand would have to fight hard.

His first match after returning from surgery. He will take till next year to regain match fitness and overall fitness. He is here on his own, not part of official Indian Team. All players not on Team List are here on their own.

What can you say? Their level difference is too high.
I expect him to cruise into SF.

Soong Joo Ven finally finish off Emil Holst in three sets despite leading a lot in the second set.
    A motivational win for him, 21-10, 21-23, 21-16.

Indeed, very late night show, too many rubber games in fully-packed qualifying match of five categories.
MS opening round saw Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Emil Holst were sent packing early, other seeded players march on into second round.

I did not expect Liew Darren to be man-handled like this. His form really is worse than last year.

A disappointing start for the CHN junior squad. Wang Zhiyi was knocked out in the qualies and Sun Feixiang couldn't clear first hurdle at the hands of the THA up-and-comer, Khosit Phetpradab, albeit in a hard-fought three-setter.

Lim/Ooi really wasted the chance of winning after the abysmal second set. However, this is their first tournament together, so I think they can improve their chemistry later.

Khosit vs Jojo tomorrow, should be interesting. A good chance for Hendra/Tan to rise and shine.
