    Viktor Axelsen told reporters :

    “I feel so happy. I can’t believe I just beat Chen Long in straight games. I never expected to win that comfortably. I made very few errors,” declared the jubilant winner; the first European to reach the Men’s Singles final in 16 years.

    “I am so proud but I am not done yet. I have another match to focus on tomorrow.

    “Denmark is a small country but I am very proud that we can compete with the bigger countries. It’s a dream come true. Ever since I was a little boy, I dreamed of (being in) a World Championships final!”

    It was a bad day at the office for Matsutomo/Takahashi as they went down tamely to Chen/Jia

    but their compatriots Fukushima/Hirota fared better against Pederesen/Juhl and should probably have won in two games, rather than the three needed

    IMG_2759.JPG

    IMG_2762.JPG

    LD took the opportunity to do some press-ups during his match with SWH

    IMG_2755.JPG

    and it clearly paid off as he glided imperiously past the Korean in two

    IMG_2756.JPG

    The all Chinese MD SF was high quality but strangely anodyne as a spectacle. Liu Cheng succeeded in breaking a racket through the sheer force of his swing

    IMG_2778.JPG

    before he and Zhang sealed the victory in two

    IMG_2780.JPG

    Superb Sindhu won her match on a challenge, but this was just a technicality as she completely dominated an over-awed Chen Yufei. Chen's time will come soon, though.

    There's also Matsumoto in one of the other Japanese doubles pairs.

    The key to VAs dominating performance yesterday, was infact not to attack all out but hold back a bit and wait for the proper moment, then explode. Even when leading by 6-7 pointe, he still resisted to go for the very quick kills.

    But you do need an attacking aggressive player to beat CL, because when the chance is there, only a handful of players in the world have strong enough offense to consistently secure the point. The rest will be run dead by CLs defense and stamina.

    LCW has shown that pure offense prowess combined with frankly a lack of tactical execution, is easily dismantled by CL.

    If you keep excusing yourself and not seeing the root cause of the problem (a bit like Justin is doing for CL in this thread), you will never improve. And you will repeat your losses.

    Cheers,

    It turns out LD maybe is Super Dan again...

    I'm really looking forward to today's game!

    The championship is completely open between them IMHO. VA may have looked a bit stronger yesterday, but he is in his first big final - never underestimate experience.

    LD will be cool as a cuecumber.

    Cheers,

    He is 4-5 vs SWH and 3-3 vs LD if I recall correct.

    I think he doesn't mind.

    If he is to win the match, I bet he'd prefer to stand next to LD during the ceremonies. What better than to have beaten the best, en route to your success?

    Cheers,

    Xrays show that it was a clean break. (Unlike first assumed that he had to go through surgery and have screws implanted to hold the bones together.

    I guess he will not determine his future career until a couple of months from now.

    I beg to differ, I don't see Super Dan here.

    First, Super Dan doesn't play so many clears and get smashed and left stranded so often, generally, not so passive and defensive;

    Second, Super Dan is simply more consistent, steady and stable and the results showed;

    Third, Super Dan plays at a much higher pace and considerably more offensive than defensive;

    Fourth, Super Dan is much more motivated, has significantly better conditioning, fitter and stamina-wise, and trains harder.

    Nowadays, Super Dan remains a dream, to be hoped for but not expected. Cheers.

    Of course.

    What I meant was that he seems stronger now, than what we have seen in a long time.

    :)

    Danish TV had an interview with him a couple of hours after the match.

    At that time the outlook was surgery and screws. Fischer was really devastated, and it was clear that he thought it was the end of his career. At age 38 with a family, you sacrifice a lot to be at this level he said. Now it really doesn't seems worth it.

    He refused to talk about the end of his career.

    Now the following day, doctors outlook improved, so there is hope.

    Cheers,

    I like him, a great character, one who wears his heart on his sleeve, very animated and expressive yet not in-your-face.

    Yeah, at age 38, it's hard on him.
