What is the universal grip?
A grip that is applicable world-wide without any compatibility problems. So if you bought a grip in Asia, you can use that grip in Europe even though you are in different parts of the world! ....j/k
Universal grip is basically a grip that you use (both for forehand and backhand shots) as compared to your forehand and backhand grips. My understanding of the grip is that it is similar to the backhand grip but instead of your thumb resting on the wide bevel, it is resting flat on the diagonal bevel and the rest of your fingers are spreaded to hold the racket.
Isn't it also called the panhandle grip? i.e. the same way you would hold
a saucepan while cooking?
