I saw they showed 3 meters and 5 centimeters as the smash height in one of viktors matches. This was the heighest I have observed. Anybody seen a higher value?
For reference a basketball goal has the same height, so its not very high if you ask me. I am pretty sure he can jump higher than that.

    Offtopic:
Also quite a few players were playing the new astrox 77. Was quite suprised that the pros would switch before a world championship.
    Good week for yonex =)

I'm surprised there was no 'Astrox' for either LD or LCW. The people using the Astrox were likely using the Astrox, they aren't the usual suspects for Yonex certified clones.

I play singles with someone's 6'4 and pretty aggressive on court, it's a bitch trying to pick up smashes. You can do flat lifts and still get smashes, you can do high lifts and still get smashes. It's quite unpredictable.

Just found my most favorite shot of the whole match (the whole tournament?). It's by far that wicked backhand kill at the end of the rally leading to 3:2 in game #2:

How does he do that as an answer to a fairly nice and fast deceptive drive/lift from LD?!

I was totally surprised how Victor finished off Chen Long, it was one way traffic! even though CL had better head to head figures. I don't think CL knew what hit him. Victor's steep smashes were deadly, they weren't powerful but very steep and won many points outright that even with CL known defenses couldn't defend against his angled smashes. With LD the second game was so simple for Victor and easy. Again, the steep smashes were devastating and ended the game quickly. I was supporting Victor, by the way.

Badminton players aren't basketball players. Viktor isn't winning simply because he's tall. He has solid consistency, excellent defense and movement combined with good physical fitness. This is how badminton should be played IMO.

Smash height of 305 cm tells us he isn't even hitting as steep as someone his height can. I'm 185 cm and I can jump and reach 305 cm, before factoring in the racquet. Great smashers have always been good jumpers, regardless of height (Ahsan, JJS, FHF). I think we should stop focusing on his height as being a game changer.

VA's future meetings with Lin Dan, Chen Long, LCW, SWH, KS, and others will give us a clearer picture and answer some of our questions and doubts. How does the 'shorty' LCW, 1.72m (5 ft 7/8 in) tall, beat all the taller or tallest players ? All I can say is what he lacks in height, he makes up for in speed, and, if I may add, in skills and experience (and talent).

    Nozomi Okuhara is only 1.55m, about 5 ft 1 in. Akane Yamaguchi, 1.56m (5 ft 1 in). Tai Tzu Ying,1.63m (5 ft 4 in). Carolina Marin, 1.72m (5 ft 7/8 in). Intanon Ratchanok, 1.68m ( 5 ft 6 in). Compared with , Sindhu, 1.79m (5 ft 10 in). Sun Yu , 1.83m ( 6 ft). Sung Ji Hyun, 1.75m ( 5 ft 8/9 in).

Just saw this one on Viktor's facebook - a new episode of his podcast in English! Talking about the World Championships. Should be an interesting listen.
