I personally like Sun Yu, because she has a perfect head-to-head record against Marin! If her record against Saina can improve in the next 6 months, her chances of going to Rio will go up a lot.

Well, of course, LYB has to worry about Saina, SJH and Ratchanok as well.

Zhang Ning and LYB are doing a good job in keeping Sun Yu relatively injury-free and low profile so that foreign opponents don't know much about her weaknesses at this stage.

    1. Li Xuerui
    2. Wang Shixian * it's pretty tough to negate her twice unless she isn't performing in these tournaments, and she has some good chances against ANY player except the lesser one vs CM

    3. Sun Yu
    4. Wang Yihan

This assumes that two China ladies singles make the criteria for the Olympics. It might possibly be only one.

Please don't talk negatively. Definitely, two will represent for china. What is the possibility of only one taking part in olympics ?. I don't get you.

If the Chinese WS still steadily make up the slots in the semifinals of those Oly qualification tournaments, they surely will send two WS there.

Nonetheless, AlanY is our expert for the exact Oly point calculations of those pertinent tournaments :p

    Are you sure?

Sun yu lost 3 times in a row to Saina this year (All England, Malaysian Open, Australia Open). So , you think Saina does not know her weakness(es) ?

And also, you did not even consider Japanese WS players. May be they are low profile in recent tournaments. But they can't be neglected. Everybody, will be in full force @ the time of Olympics.

A player has to get enough ranking points to secure automatic qualification. Since it is the beginning of the cycle, nobody can assume there will be definitely two who will qualify, correct?

Let's say the potential for improvement in Sun Jun is better than Saina who is already established. Perhaps Saina will be the player that prevents China from having a representative in the Olympics.:)

    Sun Jun ?

And also, Apart from Saina, i am sure so many players are capable of beating SunYu. My point is Sun Yu is vulnerable than Shixian Wang.

What Sun Yu is now doing is what LXR was doing from May 2011 to Dec 2011: staying injury-free and not seen as much of a threat to anyone. Zhang Ning is the mastermind, of course. heheee :D

My prediction is that Sun Yu will achieve World Ranking No. 3 (or is it No. 4??) by the end of the qualification period in early May 2016.

Currently only Li Xuerui and Sun Yu look good enough to go Rio.

The 2 Wangs have a lower chance.

It doesn't seem to me that Liu Xin and Yao Xue will go to Olympics, if at all.

He Bingjiao probably will have her chance at 2020 Olympics.

Sun Yu looks like a threat to many players but somehow I don't feel like she has it to get hot-contested titles. While Wang Yihan, though beaten on most tournament nowadays, still has it on her day to beat the best. If I was CHN team coach, I would prefer take my chance for the gold with her then a fourth place with Sun Yu.

Li Xuerui impressed me first time she come around, not like Sun Yu though. So far, I think if it's going to be two, Li and one of the Wang.

After the letdown by LXR today, going out to Akane in a three-setter and showing signs of fitness problem, I'm really not sure who will go to Rio among the CHN WS - it's an open field now.

At the moment, WSX seems to be playing best but if she cannot win any SS titles or overcome her main foreign rivals more often than not from now until Rio, well...I don't know what to say.

    Oww, that's a secret ...
What is CJ doing all this time? Downhill all the way.
Recently, all China's WS had stamina/physical problem. What their physical trainer doing?
WSX has healthiest body, nearly free injury, if she can update her finishing touch...
For long time I alreay don't have confidence in Yao Xue, but still she has enter tournament frequently, why not Deng Xuan, or other or juniors.
I can foresee China's WS will experince of doom in near future if their junior still get only 2/3 tourney per year.
