wrist pain with new racket

    Guys, im having trouble adjusting from an Iso Ti SS to an MP99.

    I get pain in my wrist when I swing the MP99.

    I notice that while the 2 rackets are of the same length, the ISO has a longer shaft while the MP has a longer grip.

    I hold my rackets high on the grip, btw.

    Any ideas?

    A difference in weight or weight distribution in the racquets? Perhaps the MP99 is heavier or head-heavier. If you're not accustomed to the extra weight or shift in weight balance, it could possibly add strain on your wrists. And are the grips the same size? That might affect your swing as well and thus could have affects on your wrist as well.

    I noticed this when switching to another racquet (Much stiffer than current one) and adding more tension then I would usually use. I think you're just getting used to the stiffness and possibly the tension. Try stretching your wrist before games and in between.

    The MP99 is slightly stiffer than my old racket and also, the weight distribution is indeed more even, as the ISO Ti SS is kind of head-heavy.

    Im concerned whether or not im doing something wrong, or do I simply need to strengthen my wrist?

    You can definitely try strenghtening your wrist to prevent injuries since the more developed the muscle is, it lowers your chance of being injured incomparison with before.

    Wrist injuries are not to solely caused by your choice of racket. Well not those rackets at least. Wrist injuries are caused by rackets like the Ti-10 with a head heavy balance. I know this from personal experience.

    Its also caused by non-stop vigorous play, esp in doubles where u do alot of wrist flicking.

    If u feel any pain in your wrist, take a rest and if it persists, go see a physio. Because i sat around for about a month and a half to "rest". And it didn't heal at all, so i had to go see a physio and it still hasn't fully healed till today.

    Strengthening is a good idea but not when your wrist is already injured. You'll just damage it even more...

    thanks a lot for the advice guys.

    i will definitely look for some excercises for strengthening the wrist!

    Maybye you should change to a lower string tension for a while.
