Nice points there kwun. I'd have to agree. ZM67 is a whole different string entirely from 62 and 70 IMO. Control is the only department I am not lacking in, so thats why I prefer 67 right now. But now that my smash is getting better, I'm slowly coming back to 62. The difference is nothing like BG85 to BG80, the difference makes it more like the difference between BG80 to BG66. Both very repulsive, but play differently.

How about increasing the tension on ZM67 by 2lbs-3lbs over ZM62.

+2lbs is not enough, 3 or 4 would be better but I'm sure the earlybirds in this thread have tried that already?

    I've tried doing that already. ZM62 at 24 vs ZM67 at 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29lbs.

ZM67 IMO felt closest at 27, but at that tension, it's too difficult to generate power with any of my rackets except for my Zelm PP10K.

what are you trying to achieve with that? better feel? even better power?

I think Strings should be compared on a like for like basis - same tension, same racket. otherwise the comparison isn't fair.

To approximate the effective tensions of the 2 strings if the thicker string is tensioned higher. However, even if the effective tensions are comparable, the thinner ZM62 will have better playability, AOTBE.

Kwun, I believe TEP means trying to simulate the feel of a thinner string by stretching the thicker string more, which is what I was trying to do with my experiments. As I'm sure you already know, the goal with this is to get the same feel of a thinner, more fragile string with a thicker, more durable string.

Jamesd20, I agree with you wholeheartedly. But I always find it interesting to see at what different tensions dissimilar strings will feel the similar, which I especially need to know as someone who strings for others and sells strings as part of my business because customers are always looking for the best results with the least amount of money.

It depends on the player. Many players find it difficult to generate power at higher tensions of say 29lbs on ZM67 or even 27lbs on ZM62. However, if you can generate fast hand speed this is not a problem. But this can be overcome by persisting with it.
Say a player finds it hard to generate easy power on ZM67 at 27lbs, ask him to use it for a while, preferably with a relaxed arm/hand and body as he zeros in for the shot. This will speed up the racquet head speed after a period of adjustment. He will eventually learn how to generate power from a relaxed approach.

i have played with the ZM62 and ZM67, both strung at 23.5lbs on 2 different ARC10. so i have both available to compare.

in terms of feel/control, nothing beats ZM62, the stiffer string bed and the response is 2nd to none. ZM67 feels a bit softer and don't have the same type of feedback.

in term of power, i like ZM67, in fact, ZM67 has quite a big more power and omph than the ZM62. it just explodes into the shuttlecock with a huge bang.

in term of defense, i also like the ZM67, ZM62 was too stiff to produce the right amount of bounce. while ZM67 just bounces the shuttle way back to the baseline.

for what i play, i will use ZM62 for mixed where there are a lot more push and touch shots, while i will use ZM67 for the power and defense.

question on the RED strings -- do they leave a mark on the shuttlecock (cork) when you hit with them?

Or maybe am I remembering those patterns applied to stringbed with red markers which leaves marks on shuttle corks... hmm...

    Hi All

I made the following comparison between ZM62 and BG66M

    http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...MA-aka-BG66M&p=1450014&highlight=#post1450014

As you see I am keen to get hold of some ZM Pro, so I wrote a message on Ashway's facebook wall (http://www.facebook.com/Ashaway?v=wall&story_fbid=401540073646 ) and got the following reply, which I thought you all might be interested in
"Yes, ZyMax 62 is very thin and not for everyone. We do not have plans to stock a 0.65mm string at the moment. However the construction of ZM62 will be changed slightly to increase durability a little, this will be available from September 2010. Can I suggest you try ZyMax 67 in the meantime, it is still very thin, performs well and lasts longer than the ultra fine ZM62."

    Any comments welcome.

Heh Alpinerock, the "ZM Pro" is still just a prototype. I don't believe a PR rep running a FB page would know anything about the Badminton R&D department's new products except for regarding what has been released already.

Thanks for this singnflip4life. I appreciate that there are forum members such as yourself and Dinkalot whose knowledge of the industry is very much more extensive than my own.

So I just need to keep watching this space.

Yep, ZM Pro was actually this Panda's creation; this Panda recommended it to Ashaway to see the differences between the different ZM strings. We found what we were looking for and are presently back at the drawing board to see if anything can be improved. :)

Does that mean that there is likely to be a ZM 0.65 (Pro) in the near future?

    Cheers

Hi Kwun: ZM62 plays 2-3lbs. tighter than normal string.

Try this: string ZM62 3lbs. lower and then compare the strings in terms of power, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. :D

strung ZM70 on a AT700 @ 25x26. i have another AT700 strung with BG80 @ 25x26 also and was able to do A/B compare. ZM70 feels horrible. no feel, dull, not repulsive at all. every shot just end up with a thud and all power gone. i am even tempted to just cut it off, which is very rare for me.
