Yonex BG80 power
Yes people, you read that correctly. A new version of BG80 has been set for release in Japan. Photos are courtesy of at700.com

The advertised improvements over the old BG80 is summarised as shown below:

The specifications of BG80P are:
Repulsion - 9
Durability - 7
Hitting Sound - 7
Shock Absorption - 6
Control - 6
So what exactly is the main construction difference to the old BG80 you ask? Apparently with a side by side comparison of the packaging, it shows that the new BG80P has the high-intensity nylon core (plus the BG80's vectran, of course) and the high polymer nylon outer multifilament (plus the outermost sticky coating of BG80) which is also used in BG66 Maxima and BG66 Ultimax.

The chart shows that the BG80P could feel a little softer and "more solid" (an opposite of "sharp feel") compared to the standard BG80. The only downside to this new BG80P is that it costs more than BG80 per pack and is marketed at the same price as BG66 Ultimax JP, BG66 Maxima JP, NBG98 JP etc.

Seems interesting. It appears BG80 is a pretty popular string, but when I tried it years ago I thought I didn't like the 'hard' feeling. I'm currently trying the zymax 70 and soon 67 strings but I'll be keen to give this a go too. What does "more solid" actually mean vs "sharp feel"?

Finally: a true ORANGE string from YY!
Same gauge as BG80 but different outer shell... I hope they haven't tampered with BG80 too much, as IMHO it's always been the best YY all-rounder by miles. (Also, I adore its unique feel; @Hulla you'll find Z70 significantly softer than BG80, so it may be more to your liking.)

I'll have to see if I can blag some BG80P from Winston to review... watch this space
.
The BG65 orange is pretty washed out compared to that one up there; more of a "sorbet" orange. (Ye gods, I sound like a bird!)

NBG95 comes in some sort of orange as well. But yeah: ORANGE
Seems to be a different colour indeed from the 65 and 95 (005 orange vs 160 bright orange). BG65Ti apparently comes in 160 as well I see ...

shoot, they're messing with the meter stick of all YY strings? I'll give them a try, but already dislike this "softer" feeling they're going for in most of their strings especially the nanology line. I love the direct feel of the 80's~ It's equivalent to running coilovers vs spring and shock combos for cars!

Yeah first thing I noticed in the description as well but doesn't seem to have moved much on the chart

What durability ?

actually I found that if you string 1-2lbs tighter than usual, then leave the racket untouched for a week, the durability is much better, problem is, I always forget to leave it, and end up playing with it, 2 hours after it's strung, so that's why I get no durability.

BG80 at 28lbs.. lasted me only six hours. BG65 at 33lbs.. lasted me a month. BG65 at 30lbs.. lasted me six months. BG65 at 29lbs.. lasted a year. i always got the same guy to string my racquet with bg65, he's really good.. different guy strung with bg80. it might be something to do with the stringer too, but srsly, six hours.. *disappointed*.
I like the feel of bg80, so I hope that the durability would really be improved on this one..
