    Where is the Sudirman Cup in 2012 going to be held?

    BWF Deputy President, Rangsikitpho Paisan, indicated that Malaysia and Australia are bidding for the next Sudirman Cup in 2012. And BWF will announce the winning city in December 2011.

    I hope it will be in Melbourne, Australia. :):):)

    you mean 2013, right? Sudirman Cups are held in odd year. Thomas/Uber Cups are held in even years.

    :eek::eek::eek: Oops... I didn't think twice before I posted. :eek::eek::eek:

    I just followed this article forwarded to me;

    ====== * ====== start article ====== * ======

    QINGDAO, China, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Badminton World Federation Deputy President Rangsikitpho Paisan said here on Sunday that BWF will not make any changes to the rules though China's domination in the sport seemed unstoppable.

    "I don't see any need to change the rules as BWF always want the best players playing in our competitions. China may be dominating the team events like the Sudirman Cup, Thomas Cup and Uber Cup but as we saw last year, Korea managed to upset them in the Uber Cup," said Paisan, who is in Qingdao for the 12th Sudirman Cup.

    Chinese team has bagged seven of the 11 trophies on offer in the history of the biggest world mixed team badminton championships, and is favourite to win it again this year.

    Paisan said that other teams ought to find their own way to surpass China other than expecting the governing body to make changes in rules to limit China.

    Paisan also indicated that Malaysia and Australia are bidding for the next Sudirman Cup in 2012 and BWF will announce the winning city in December.

    Meanwhile a new rule from BWF ordering female badminton players to wear short skirts, also causes unease after objections from China, Indonesia and some other countries.

    The "skirt rules", which should go ahead in May, was delayed to June as a result of the outcry from coaches and shuttlers. Paisan said that BWF council would discuss whether to abort the rules or not at the organisation's annual general meeting on May 28 in Qingdao.

    "The rules are part of a larger campaign to enhance the presentation profile of the sport. This is to help attract a wider target group amongst both younger and older people, and among both women and men," added him.

    Australia is a neighbour of Indonesia

    .
    When most teams are coming from Asian countries, I think it is cheaper (as compared to travelling to other continents).

    Australia is a neighbour of Indonesia (I shall add). Therefore, the Indonesian and Malaysian teams should be most happy to travel to Australia (IMHO). :D:D:D

    .
    You'll never know. :):):)

    When we arrive at 2013, our Australian dollar could be much cheaper than today's value. :):):)

    Badminton is not a popular sport in Australia

    .
    Short answer: Badminton is not a popular sport in Australia.

    One of the reasons for us to host International events is to promote the sport (to be better known in Australia).
