...“It’s very different here,” Ashwini said. “There’s a lot of emphasis on individual training, which isn’t the case there (national camp). Tom Sir works on every single aspect of the game, which is very important for me. If I have to get better, I need that kind of training and Sir gives that to me. He corrects me constantly, and that’s very essential. Because there’s no end to learning, it’s not like I’m 23 so I have to stop learning… it’s really important, because I’m getting better, I get more confidence. You’re working on aspects that need to be worked on. Like this morning, I did multi-shuttle (practice), with a crazy number of shuttles, and Sir pushes you, and it’s required, because you need someone to help you. It’s definitely going to help me, because women’s doubles is not only about hitting; you have to smart and patient. Doing drills like this helps my stamina and patience.

...Ashwini says training at the national camp has its downside because it’s difficult for the doubles coach, Edwin Iriwan, to pay individual attention. “It’s impossible to get individual attention at the camp, because there are lots of players,” she says. “Coach Edwin (Iriwan) is helpful, but the sessions are different. With Tom Sir I get individual attention. At the camp the training is the same for everyone. But you do require individual attention because everyone has different needs.”

...The Kodava girl is hoping to bring her regular partners to Bangalore so that they can all train under Tom John. “I will request Gopi Sir to see if we can train here.

No mixed, just doubles for Jwala Gutta
Badminton doubles specialist Jwala Gutta will return to competitive action at the All-England Open in March following what would be a seven-month sabbatical for the 29-year-old Hyderabad girl.

"I just needed a break from everything. The pressure was taking its toll on me. In the run up to the Olympics I couldn't sleep properly, I couldn't eat properly. Although doubles is a team sport, the focus is invariably on me," said Gutta on the sidelines of the launch of the sports goods outlet in the city on Sunday.

if you review her matches in 2012, it's clear that Ponnappa is the one doing all the work
and Gutta is the one making all the errors and doing all the whining

hopefully this will also mean V Diju can find a better more reliable partner for XD

Jwala Gutta... oh so talented and ever so lazy. she seems to not have the mentality of a champion, failing completely to deal with the pressure of expectation that mostly came from herself anyway. not many expected big things from them at the olympics. or maybe people in India did but if they did, its mostly because she was silly enough to say that winning a medal was the goal.

but she is a charismatic and dynamic player and its great to hear she feels like playing some badminton again

BANGALORE: Shuttler Ashwini Ponnappa, preparing for the Malaysian Super Series and the All-England Open, said she would honour her commitment to current partner Pradnya Gadre despite Jwala Gutta making a comeback from her break.

Hyderabadi Jwala told reporters in Chennai recently that she would return to action at the All-England Open, adding she would focus only on women's doubles and partner Ashwini in the event. The pair had won the Commonwealth Games gold in 2010 before capturing a bronze medal in the world championships the following year.

However, Ashwini hinted that resuming her successful partnership with Jwala was a possibility only after the March 5-10 event in Birmingham. "I have already conveyed my decision to Jwala, who has been extremely understanding," Ashwini told TOI on Monday.

"I explained that I had given my word to Pradnya and I intended to honour it and Jwala was supportive of my decision," said Ashwini, who will leave for Hyderabad on Tuesday to resume training at the national camp.

Indian Badminton player Jwala Gutta is debuting in films with her friend, actor Nitin's upcoming Telugu movie Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde. She was flooded with several big offers soon after her first look in the item song hit the net. One of them is a staggering offer of Rs 1.5 crore from Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. But the new item girl has turned down this deal quoting her busy Badminton schedule. The producers of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa were impressed with her posters in Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde.

They wanted to rope in her for the sixth edition of their hit dance reality TV show. Hence, they approached Jwala Gutta with a lucrative offer of Rs 1.5 crore. But the the Badminton player rejected their offer without a second thought, which came as an unexpected shock for the producers. Jwala Gutta, who is staying in Hyderabad, had to fly to Mumbai for the shoot every week for a period of three-and-half months and her portions will be shot for 34 days.

But she is currently training for 6 days a week and 7 hours a day for upcoming big tourneys and she has only one day holiday in a week and that is Sunday. So she had no other choice except rejecting it. For this Hyderabadi beauty, Badminton remains as her first love. Even if she retires, she wants to work for badminton.

When asked about why she rejected the offer of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Jwala Gutta says, "Badminton comes first to me, everything else is just next to the sport."
