Agree, shorter people seem to get more benefit of doubt. Bankier serve consistency wise is brilliant.
I also feel the umpires let dubious low serves past , then fault almsot any flick serves which are no higher

Bankier's serve when struck is level with the lowest rib though (cork is below the loosest rib (just)) in the Adcock serve, I believe this one was faulted for racket not facing in a downwards direction (if it's the one I am thinking of)

I think this line is probably the lower rib, its normally where the elbow point is with arm at side. Clearly the serve is very debatable, I've thought this throughout worlds, she tends to start serve a bit lower. No criticism of Bankier who is one of my favourite players and has every right to play to the umpires

Capture setup = prt scr?
You can use the snapshot feature of VLC player under the video tab as well
.
The vid is from YooToob uploaded in the video sharing section of the forum ...
Obviously this particular serve is a fault (why else would they show the replay of it this time) and indeed the Adcock flick I couldn't see anything wrong with really when they showed the replay. Seems to vary where Imogen starts off with her serve from the overhead cam view iirc. Not going to bother re-watching the vid to find faulty serves
...
One of the Chinese girls in the #5 seed has quite a dodgy serve as well imo ...Last edited by demolidor; 08-13-2011 at 05:46 PM.

Everytime someone was serve faulted in that match, the server asked the service just the reason. The service judge always indicated the shuttle was too high (by moving right arm to chest and keeping it horizontal). If the service judge moved his arm so it wasnt horizontal and fingers were pointing up, then that means racket angle was ilegal. (I believe)

yeah. very dodgy. she did get called once during the match but i think the service judge was a bit lenient there.

To the person who drew the yellow line, I think the line should be a bit higher, but still very much a fault in that photo. As for the 2nd photo, if it was a flick and the umpire gave a vertical arm sign, then that's shaft is not pointing in a downward angle. But I did not see this video so I cannot make a judgement.
Sometimes, the movement is too quick for the eyes to capture completely so who knows.

My line could be fractionally higher, but if you estimate where the point of her elbow would come, and look where hr hip is I don't think its far off. Highlights the advantage of being tall!
