I've been struggling with recurrent right knee "injuries", pain and occasional swelling for the past couple of years.
The last straw came last week after the swelling in my right knee refused to subside completely even after 3-4 weeks.
I couldn't even walk or stand without feeling any pain.
After an x-ray and consultation, I've been diagnosed with Tricompartmental Osteoarthritis with osteophytes. I'm told that it is a severe form of degeneration.
    I'm 41 this year.
I'll likely seek further opinion and advice on this.
In the meantime, does anybody know how this will impact my weekly dosage of badminton? ie can I still play? Or should I completely quit from the sport?
Anybody else also suffer from this?

High level badminton is severely restricted and it's very doubtful you can play serious games.

I am surprised that you can get such severe damage - you might be very heavy, that could be a reason or had a knee injury when young.

I am 169cm tall and weigh 68kg. I've had injuries to my medial collateral ligament when I was about 26 years of age. I also partially tore my archilles tendon when I was about 30, which subsequently affected my walking/running style and standing posture. That could be a major contributing factor. Thanks for your input.

Sorry to hear of this. You can play but have to be pragmatic about what you can do on court.

Sorry to hear too. You have many years left to go, so make sure you protect it from further damage. Play only on well cushioned floors preferably mats on suspended wood floors. Wear good shoes with good cushion. Consider buying a new pair once a year as the midsole support deteriorates if you play often. And avoid playing with players who are too advanced.

Should definitely wait for further opinion before you "completely quit the sport". But I agree that you shouldn't be aggravating it right now with competitive badminton. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I agree. I am surprised at the severity.
