Training for major badminton honours is relentless and punishing, as shown in the article "What a full time player will go through". It is therefore easy to let go and lower one's standards, settling for more local or less demanding competition. I have a friend who was offered to play for England a few years ago, but declined because training was too far away and got in the way of his schooling. Is it wise to settle for less, or is this a defeatist attitude? Anyone have similar experiences? Aleik
well I was taught if you are going to do something, do it well. However if you can't put that much focus onto something, do it the best you can at the next lower level is no shame still. It's that person's life and how a person prioritize things in his or her life is up to them and as long as he or she can live with the decisions made, that's just fine.
Hmm... I'll definitely say it's not a defeatist atittude. If badminton got in the way of MY studies, I'll definitely lower my standards. Maybe some people are that good in badminton they don't mind it affecting their studies though. I mean, if you CAN really get far into this world with badminton while it might affect your studies, it'll be totally up to you.
If you play regularly as in like 3 hours everyday, It surely will get in the way of your studies. But proper oragnizing helps.
Lol. If I played 3 hours a day it'll be heaven and as for my studies... Now I only play 2-4 hours a week! I know many people here have time to play nearly everyday though... Let's see... I spend 7 hours in school daily, sleep about 6-8 hours... I doubt I'll have much time for badminton daily, whether 1 hour or 3 hours.
In the summer, I play like 8-10 hours a week. But when school comes its reduced to 4 hours a week. boo-hoo.
hi well i believe if u do have an keen interest in badminton and u want to take it to another level. Its only wiseif you pursue badminton as your career even though if may not earn you much. but well, follow your heart.
