Nozomi Okuhara: The new rising star in Japan
.
Oh I see.

Miyuki Komiya posted this in Badzine on 12-Dec-2011;
The All Japan Badminton tournament was held from Dec 6th to 11th at Yoyogi Stadium N2 in Tokyo, and saw an unexpected victory from the new rising star in Japan: Nozomi Okuhara.
An unexpected player who had already made a name for herself this year in the Austrian International, Canada Open, and the World Junior Championships, Nozomi Okuhara got her first national title in women’s singles on Sunday. She beat national team veterans Sayaka Sato in quarter-final and Minatsu Mitani in the semi-final.
Okuhara then grabbed the title without playing the final match because All England runner-up Eriko Hirose had to withdraw because of an injury.
“I didn’t expect that I would win the title. I entered this big tournament for the first time 3 years ago. I lost in first round then and watched the tournament as a spectator. I knew how hard it would be to be a winner in this tournament. So I didn’t expect to win one day here,” she said in a post-match interview. “I am not tall. So I let small players know that you have chance to get a win if you train hard.“

Eriko had acute gastroenteritis on the final day
.
Yes, the article from The Japan Times also mentioned that the five-time winner Eriko Hirose withdrew about 10 minutes before the women's singles final due to acute gastroenteritis.

Perhaps they are her schoolmates who could not contain their excitement when they were seeing her thrash Minatsu in the rubber. Saitama is after all just north of Tokyo and it was a weekend match. They seemed to be uttering the syllable 'no', which may be the shortened version of her name.
Just realised that Nozomi is an extremely aggressive player. Fast and furious. Her opponents must be accumulating lactic acid just trying to return her shots. It is likely that there will be greater things to come, since she can produce such results despite making what I consider a significant number of unforced errors.
MM has more than once appeared breathless. I seriously wonder if she is asthmatic.
I'm surprised and dismayed that the uploader Badland Movie has cut his resolution from 1080p to 480p for the later matches. I guess he was not able to transfer his many videos into his youtube account in time and ran out of storage space. But anyway, many thanks for all his effort.Last edited by phil-mm; 12-17-2011 at 01:19 PM.

I believe Nozomi Okuhara can make it into the World's Top 50 positions in 2012
.
I took a look at Nozomi Okuhara's BWF Ranking today (23-Dec-2011). She is now ranked at 81st position.

After we have started this thread for Nozomi (in September 2011), she reached her highest ranking at 60th position in October 2011.

Depending on Nozomi's schedule (juggling between school and Badminton), at 17 years of age next year (2012), I believe she can make it into the World's Top 50 positions without problem.
