I heard the badminton courts at the new Singapore Badminton Hall (Address: No 1 Lorong 23 Geylang) are now available for public booking.

Does anyone have the contact number?

jurong_twister, I think its newly built and close to Aljunied MRT Station.

See article in the link below:

    Quote:
Plans are also underway to conduct nightly training sessions for NIS players at a new badminton facility along Geylang Lorong 23 called the Singapore Badminton Hall. Being built by events company Arina Hogan at a cost of S$2 million, the 2,500 sq m venue will house a 300-seat gallery, a gymnasium, a 30-bed hostel and 14 courts, six of which will be air-conditioned.

The public can book the courts after the hall's launch in the middle of next month, while the SBA will enjoy discounted rates. The national sports association also intend to host five of their annual age-group and national tournaments there starting next year.

Said Arina Hogan general manager Richard Tan: "We built this out of a love for badminton and named it Singapore Badminton Hall out of nostalgia for the old place (along Guillemard Road). We want these to be the best courts in Singapore in terms of experience and facility."

    Uneven Flooring @ Deluxe Court

    Hi SBH_Manager,
A few question, no offense, hope to get a better picture of your SBH.

1)Is there any link between SBA & SBH? will the national team settle down at SBH as home ground? like training...etc.
    2) how your management approved the flooring level? From the look of the matt laid onto the flooring, it is clearly seen the matt laid produce wave like scenario. obviously, the flooring level is not up to standard, and windy as well, will there be any improvement implemented?
3)Space for players to put stuff, at rear of court 1,2,3,4 the allowable space allocated is reasonable, but at court 5,6,7,8... it was TOO CLOSE TO THE COURT.
    4)No Water Cooler?
5)Is there any car park facilities ready? if like when hosting badminton Tournament, how many car park lot available? or where should the visitors park the car? please give us some clues.

    Cheers.

    Hi RS,

    Thanks for your feedback,

1)Yes there is a strong link with SBA, but as a home ground(HQ) that will be a decision by SBA.

2)The flooring level is noted at one of the deluxe court but is acceptable by the Sea Games Doubles/Singles Training Squad during their recent 6 days, stay-in training stint with us. And concerning the slight draft in the deluxe courts, we are seriously looking at adding draft panels within the door, which we have already done so with most doors.

    3) As for Spacing at the deluxe Courts, we do understand your concern, thus why the deluxe court is not use for National tournaments, but for recreation it is beyond Normal Standard, as its certified by TINSUE(MFG) Technicians themselves(2012 Courts supplier for the London Olympics)

4)Not ATM as 80% of our client still like to support the vending machines located conveniently around our F&B areas, and sales is very brisk, thanks Supporters (Not enough to recoup the 1.5 mil cost to build this World Class Facility, but the thoughts counts :)).

    5) Yes more Car-park space would be provided to our members & with the implementation of Car Park Pass more lots will be freed up, so do join as a member & support our building fund, membership do has its many privileges at SBH.

    Cheers!

    Brian

    Absolutely right.
When we say "world class" badminton hall, the basic facility like water cooler must be there.
Not all people can (or want to) take soft drink. It is not a matter of money!
Lucky other not world class badminton hall do come with water cooler.
We really hope that the authority can look into it. If they really want to promote the game, can not alway think of recover the cost.

I've been there to take a look some weeks ago.

The location at Lorong 23 is not entirely visible and it took me some time to find the place not known for sports and recreation - the building looks more like a former warehouse that has been renovated. But this is the first time I had the opportunity to get to know the area.

I suppose because there is a limited budget and time is of the essence that the owners had to make do with what they had.

As such I wouldn't call it a "world class" badminton hall as claimed. It does not look as
'solid' from the outside compared to the old SBH at Guillemard Rd. It is an additional facility for badminton fans and certainly improvements can be made as some have suggested here.

Since they are not funded by Government, they surely have to earn as much as they can.

If the total facility is 1.5 millions with the current Singapore Bank Promotional Business Term Loan 8.88% - 10% per annum for 30 years, they have to come up with $8000 per month.

    staffs (cleaner + accountant + admin, etc) - $10K
    utilities bill - $2K
    maintenance - $1K
    others - $4K

    Minimum is around $25K monthly / 30 = 830+ per day.

We really cannot compare it with Sports Hall. SP are funded by Government using our tax money.

For private, every single $ counts. So, dont be surprise that they wont add water cooler, but selling mineral water instead.

Hopefully with the coming pilot pen tournament, the kids will have water given. Some are just too poor to buy or just didn't bother to buy. ;)
