I dropped by the new Singapore Badminton Hall (SBH) yesterday evening to catch some of the Day 2 action.
This year's tournament attracted quite a number of entries. This is probably the first time I have seen the Malaysian juniors participate in this tournament. I believe the boys are from Bukit Jalil as they were in their yellow camouflage YY outfits imprinted with the name of their main sponsor 'Maybank'. The Thai and Taiwanese players are also a force to be reckconed with.
I was surprised to see Candra Wijaya, his wife and son at SBH. His son is Wintan Wijaya and represented the Candra Wijaya International Badminton Centre (CWIBC). He played in the U11 Boys Singles but was outclassed by his opponent, a very skillful Indian boy. Candra's brother-in-law Ronald Susilo was also there to support his nephew.
I left the hall before midnight and the matches were stillongoing. There was a 2 hour delay in the match schedules. Heard from Scanner the matches finished at 1am on first day.

Thank you for all your input.
As I expected, I was afraid the hall may not be suitable for such a popular event during year end when the school holidays have begun.
But with so many courts, why can't they complete on schedule? Insufficient officials?
I've long forsaken my darling tripod who has given me many years of joy and precision pics. She is enjoying her pension now.
So I invested in a monopod instead but will resort to hand-held if necessary.

Under these circumstances, I think I have to forsake this year's visit to the tournament, unfortunately.

the new SBH is not really suitable for competition, it's not a sports hall, but only badminton hall. The courts and the equipments (nets and poles according to bwf rules) and even the changing room (have bath tub, wah..) I think it's good enough for this event, but not seats. I think only 6 courts are used for the tournaments.
The reason why they late of schedule coz they only schedule 20 minutes each match, at international even youth level, at least 30 min must be allocated for each match.. I dont understand why they do not utilize the other 14 courts for this competition (not sure how many, but there are a lot of other courts just beside, although no umpire chairs)..

Yes it seems this facility is more suited for training. The shower rooms ... and even the dorms upstairs are meant for longer term trainees or visitors perhaps.
But with so many rears of experience hosting such events, yet the organizers can get it wrong.

the one to be blamed is also the contractor/architect who design the badminton hall. i think provided with the space there, you can build a seating capacity of 500-1000, just like other sports hall across the country have. i dunno there is such dorm there, i thought upstairs is a gym or sth like dance studio.

good day for INA BS-U17 as they beat seed no 1 and 2. Fikri beat seed 1 straight set, Rico Hamdani beat Taiwanese 3 sets. I think this Taiwanese player represent in previous WJC. INA has good chance to win BS-U17

INA also ruled in GS U-19 with 3 representatives in SF... Hanna Ramdhini who just won INA national championship title few weeks ago confirm herself to become one of INA future WS.. Today she bett second seed Tan Wei Han in 21-10 21-16. She will face third seed from INA Tri Ria Maya.. Should be no problem for Hanna to cruise to final..
