Next station of the European Badminton Circuit express will be Sofia, where the Bulgarian International Badminton Championships will be held. The Challenge tournament offers total prize money of $ 15,000. 30 countries will take part and try to gather important points for the Olympic qualification. Except Australia, all continents will be have "on court" representatives in the Bulgarian capital.

Some of the most powerful countries in badminton will be presented with its young teams. Among them are India, Chinese Taipei, England, Spain, Poland and Indonesia. All of them hope to shine with their young talents, who we will probably see at the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Some of them maybe already in London 2012.

Przemyslaw Wacha is looking for a back-to-back title after he has been succesful at the Czech International a couple days ago. The Pole is the number one seed in Sofia and will face a strong restistance by top seed Pablo Abian. More very prominent faces of the European tour like Raul Must, Petr Koukal and Ville Lång are all out to take the title. Carolina Marin (Spain) and Larisa Griga (Ukraine), who both showed impressiv results in recent tournaments, are tipped to reach the finals of the women's singles.

Alongside the tournament, the Balkan Conference will be held with the presence Badminton Europe - President Poul-Erik Høyer, Vice President Hans Lenkert, Events Manager Jimmy Andersen and Director of Communication Corina Dan. Badminton Europe will have its strategic meetings with the Balkans representatives from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Turkey.

The Championships will commence at 13:00 pm with qualification matches. The main draw event will start on 07 October and the finals will be played on 09 October.

Thumbs up We could get a Pablo Abian [1]-vs-Raul Must [8] match again

    .
About the MS Draw - It's looking good that Pablo Abian [1] could most probably be facing Raul Must [8] at the Quarter-Finals.

It's great that you are also following this tournament.

Before your post, I thought I am the only BCer following this tournament (since Sandy hasn't included it in our PAW Games).

Tan lost in three games to Wacha. Hopefully I will see him play later in the year if he keeps playing Euro events. I know that he is banned from Asian tournaments by BAM

I thought it would be close, Wacha has won his fair share of tournaments over te years, so is probably more experienced. Still Tan's ranking will increase like this.

    I was thinking the same.

Even though Tan is ranked at 127th and Wacha 26th, I was expecting an upset.
