Follow my progress...
Hi all,
Just to let you know i am keeping a diary of my training, i update it daily. It tells you of my training programme that i use, and how i feel my badminton is coming on etc.

If you have any questions about my training, then please ask them in this thread. I will update it daily and let you know when i do. Hopefully, you'll see me and follow me as i make it up the English ranks.
Kind regards,
Matt

Great to read about your training.
I was wondering, when you work out in the gym is there a coach with you telling you what to do? Forgive me if you mentioned it in the diary already.

Joanne,
I have no coach with me whilst i am in the gym. I talk to my coach during training days (eg saturdays) who tells me what i need to do (eg upper body work). Whilst being in the gym, i can draw a training programme of my own to keep to, however, the training will be more intense, especially endurance work, nearer the season.
Hope this answers your question,
Matt

Fitness
Matt - Best wishes in your endeavours.
Do you do a bleep test every 4mths to see how your VO2 max has improved ? If so what is your current level ?
Do you do any aerobic exercise - long runs etc.
Do you do plyometric exercises to compliment the weights ?
Cheers,
Sean

Sean,
I plan to see how far i can cycle etc in 30 minutes to see if my VO2 max has improved. No doubt it has because when i do interval training now, i feel great.
As for long/runs cycles yes, i still do then now and then...however, with the season coming up it's important to do interval training. This is because it's not important how fast you can cycle 6 miles, it's how many quick periods you can do within these 6 minutes, as badminton is clearly an interval sport.
Plyometrics i will be doing soon. I do things like shadow, fast feet and jumping to improve this.
Hope this helps

I've seen your log and 've a suggestion to make.
You say your backhand is no good. Y don't you try lateral lying raise. Improves backhand. Use yahoo to search.
Gd luck.

ljq,
What i meant was my backhand wasn't good at the time because i had triep trouble, and it hurt when i extended my arm. Now i've recovered, backhand are fine, backhand clearing is no trouble at all due to the upper body work i have been doing. Backhand smash is also getting harder. Sorry for any confusion.

I'm surprised you aren't doing skipping. I dont know much about the technical stuff but in Indo... skipping is a must for all people. Tripple layers, quadrupple layers etc

Hi Matt,
I would be interested in seeing how your training affects your weight and body fat percentage. Does your gym have facilities for measuring body fat?
Once a week for weight and once a month for body fat should be enough.
cheers.
