Well just interested. I normally just say "come on!" to myself. Also is it bad etiquette to shout out loud? So go on guys, what do you shout after a great smash?
Interesting question I am known to shout especially in tournaments, just depends if I'm "in the zone" then be sure I will shout and I don't care what people think. I doubt that it's bad etiquette, I remember I played a tournament once, and in doubles we took the first game like 21-16, then in the 2nd, our opponents asked me to stop yelling, and after this, we started to lose. Lost that game 12-21, then I decided that I was going to start again, cause I felt that it was helping me psychologically in the game, we won the decided 21-13 I think. One of the other guys weren't happy, but I don't mind. Nothing wrong with what I was doing.
I shout too after winning a long rally but can't remember. It's on impulse and I can't replicate now. Will come back after my baddy session.
I always find the pro's do this a lot after their opponent has made an unforced error, this in my opnion is bad etiquette purely done to get in your opponents head. Also the staring at their opponent whilst shouting is just wierd something i see a lot of these days in tournaments again just to get in opponents head. But this sort of gamesmanship seems to be accepted now even though there are uproars when a player celebrates instead of immidiately shaking someones hand at end of match, very strange. oh i don't shout btw

I'm with you, I shout 'Come on!' after an attacking shot or 'That's better!' when I've played well in defence or after a mistake in a previous shot. I also shout 'Ajay' in a dejected tone when I make a silly error. Concentration is a big thing with me. I use this talking to myself to keep my concentration level and motivate me to carry on putting in 100%. Quite often I can talk myself to winning the game when I have been down in points (if that makes sense). No one has questioned my shouting, because people that know me know that I am a passionate player and it comes out naturally. I did however once have an opponent who got upset when I shouted on the winning point of a match, obviously after I knew he couldn't get it back. He claimed my shouting had put him off. Even the onlookers said the rally was over before I shouted. He even refused to shake my hand. Ah well, some people are bad losers. I dont even know what I shout, it depends, and its usually an impulse, spur of the moment thing, and in big long rallies, or at important stages in a match... It's usually a SOOO! or HOOO! or a SEH!
Where I play one of the coaches were saying lots of Chinese players shout the sounds above ^^ so people who know about this joke does it for fun
yeah, this is probably where i got it from, but my shout changes everytime, depending on the match, i never started doing it, but once you start, its hard to stop...
