Hi guys! my name is Charlotte, I am new to all this badminton stuff, I have played alot in my garden but never at a club or in competitions.

I have started thinking recently (after towing behind boyfriend to all this motorbike events) that I need to start doing my own hobby too!

I am going along to a local club which also does training and competitions in the local league (not planning on competing till I know the rules! may be sometime :p)

I hope I can get some good advice and tips on here. Definitely need advice on a good training racquet.....:D

    hi charlotte.

for a start maybe u can seek more specialised and immediate advice from yr mates at yr local clubs.

they will know what kind of good training racquet would be more suitable for u after seeing u play.

    enjoy yr play

    cheers

Well I just got back from my tester night at the club, I LOVED it! everyone was so friendly and didn't mind showing me what the new rules entail, I get them just about, I need to relax and move around a bit but all in all I think they liked me :D

awwww thanks Fidget!! Yeh I have alot to learn with all the rules and everything, seeing as I have never played on court before, they gave me a tip that the local sports centre offer pay n play on Mondays so no membership is needed, might be ideal for topping up my skills and court/scoring knowledge.

Hi Charlotte. My advice to get better is to get a coach, it will make a massive difference in your training. Hope you enjoy your badminton :)

Just play for a while with different groups of people and they will help you with advice and tips and stuff. I wouldn't invest in coaching until you can hit the shuttle consistently or a coach might waste a few sessions helping you out with that, when it's a lot cheaper to play for a few hours instead.

But welcome to badminton and I hope you play for years to come!

Boyfriend and I are off to the local sports centre for a casual knock around tonight! I am so looking forward to it.

In terms of coaching, I might leave it for a while, I feel I need to find myself first, like my own style and if I need to tweak things then I might seek coaching.

Also I have about 4 different types of playing available to me each week (competitive club play, playing casually, playing with boyfriend/brother who are very fast challenging players, and at another sports centre with lots of different abilities) This in itself offers a much wider variety which will definitely help me develop.

I estimate roughly 7 hours minimum a week! I shall loose my podge in no time! x Thanks for all the great advice.
