I recently bought a new MP100 SP. It looks real except that I don't see any MP grommets on the racket. The following pic is posted originally by emjay. In the pic, the lower MP99 is claimed to be the fake one. Unfortunately, my MP100 SP has the regular grommets like that fake MP99. Does it mean my MP100 is fake?

if u r talking about mp100, it doesn't have the long plastic grommet strip. Only mp90/99 and 88 , and new 55 and 77 have them. So your case is undefinitive yet.

There a person in my club have a MP 100 also. His racquet doesnt have an MP bump, but he said he bought it from a authorized yonex dealer. I never asked him if he took it out when string the racquet or not but his racquet look genuine.

Good to know that MP100 doesn't have the grommet strip. Thanks cooler.

So what is the grommet strip design for?

If the grommet strips could improve power of the rackets, then why MP100 doesn't have the strip?

lot of reasons but they are all IMO:
    - to foil counterfeiters, counterfeiters dun like constant design changes
    - it saves a bit in manufacturing cost as the bottom part don't have to be mp bump molded

I highly doubt it has any performance gain or loss whether it has the plastic strip or not

    Agreed with Cooler here.

I've got a MP100 and it doesn't have the grommet strips like MP90/77/55 has. I've actually taken the grommet strip off my MP77 and replaced with flat top MP grommets, and believe me it made no difference.

    Now people think I've got a fake MP77......shheeesh! :)

yup. i agree with everybody, the MP100 doesn't have the plastic MP strip grommet.

as for the reason, it can be appearance, looks cool to have a extra strip. it can also be cost cutting move for Yonex, it will be much cheap to mold that piece of plastic than to mold a carbon fiber composite.

Yeah, i have a MP-100 right here and it's from "DK" region.....it doesn't have the bump. I guess MP-100 just doesn't have it.

However, MP77,88, and 99 should have them for sure.........because i have seen them in stores. (if you look up pictures on the web, and you will notice there are bumps on the edges)

About MP-55, I am not sure because I haven't seen it yet.

Yea, my 55 has em. Seems to work for me. Or at least in comparison to my friend's ti 6, my 55 packs a way harder punch.

I think it's not the strip you should worry about.
What you should really worry about is the MP grommets.
While it's worn out, it's hard to find replacement grommets.
