Is it possible to leap very far forward at full stretch and still play the type of netshot in which the shuttle spins in all axes?
Cheung, There are a number of things to be aware of. Firstly, that you dont jump so fast to the net that you get caught up and the shuttle comes to close. Also, because you are flying in mid air, chances are that you could miss the shuttle and once again, recovery wouldnt be great (as WWC said) so it has to go be a winner. Matt
Sometimes when you leap very far, you might break your balance so your shot could be sort of a short lift rather than a net shot.
Yes, if you reach the bird at least at about net level. Too low the spinning most likely, will not help you.
how about the shot where the spinning shuttle takes a trajectory of a hairpin drop? Is that possible? Just watching Hendrawan play Peter Gade at 2001 WC final, Hendrawan plays a number of great netshots. Sometimes he's out at full stretch and yet plays a great spin. But the shuttle does NOT take a hairpin type drop. It has a flatter pathway.
Did not see the match so can't comment on that. In my opinion, 'hairpin' drops are effective when done close to the net. If retrieving the shuttle in a low position or a drop that lands a foot or two behind the front service line - I have doubts about returning the shuttle with spin. - First would say when the shuttle should stop spinning when reaching the top of the net; - The possibility of a success return is lower (due to the spin); - Theoretically a flatter return should be safer and a bit harder for the opponent to kill it.
