Some call her “The Voice of Badminton.” Some just call her names. But everyone listens to her. She is here; she is there; one thing she is not, is elusive. During her long and illustrious career as the Voice of Badminton, Gillian Clark MBE has emoted many, many memorable phrases. Some are catchy; other make you wince; some are banal, others make you grin. But after a couple of years following GC (metaphorically) to all the tournaments around the world, you build up your database of GCisms. So here is the place to collect all your favourite GC phrases and words of wisdom, and create…. GCisms: The Definitive Gillian Clark Collection. Okay, so here’s a few to kick things off… (softly) “It’s with shots loike that….. that took him to those pres-ti-gious toytills.” (with passion) “…control of the net in men’s singles is AB-solutely critical.” (amazed) “OH myyy… GOODnesss…???!!! How did she EVER get that one BACK??!!!”
"Ohhhh... it has landed PLUM ON THE LINE" "... injection of pace..." (is this coined by her, or do other commentators use it regularly as well?) "... absoluting INCREDIBLE!" Btw, is this her full-time job? Just wondering how much she earns per tournament?
A GC Original: "Well it (the birdie) had a little look, sat there on top of the net, thought about it, then fell back on their side."
I always find British commentators in sport apart from soccer (no disrespect here) very concise, straight to the point and very easy to listen. I think it's their pronunciation and the use of words the captivate me. Sometimes, its as if they are singing. "it's 3 match points, ........ make it 2 now....."
"oh my world! how on earth he got that back?" damn, that one got taken as well. think quick before the 15 mins up. "Alan is such a handsome man"
