Hi guys I hope someone can help me.....I am progressing and improving my style of play however sometimes I find my arms and wrists ache, I was told by a friend that hand grips may be a good idea to start working my muscles etc etc, just to do a few squeezes a day to tone the muscles. Yay or Nay? x
you're not suppose to have a death grip on your racket but it'll build some stamina to help building some strength & stamina your arms and wrist, try instead holding a 500 ml bottle by the neck. fill it with enough water that you're comfortable with and as if you're holding a racket and rotate your arms in an "infinity" or figure of 8 motion also to simulate a flick or smash movement. you can progress to bigger bottles with more water as you get better also checkout paul stewards arm chair exercises videos at badminton-coach.co.uk
Yeah thats what I am hoping for, since having my training at weekend I have found having a lighter grip gives me much more flexibility in my range of shot and also if I do need to apply pressure on the racket I can do this with little effort
yes, a light grip and squeeze the handle as you hit. ideally is to have only the bottom two fingers (pinky and the ring finger) to "hold" the racket while the others are resting on the grip. this will help change from forehand to backhand grip easier and get a snappier hit
Exactly )) Thats what I am trying to do, its hard to change a habit like how to hold a racket! but once you see the benefits it makes you more dead set to do it!
