Had to share this.. Was at a club the other night when one of the guys produced a carrier bag full of tubes of shuttles. He had been working at an old house when he found boxes and boxes of old shuttles. I've never heard of the brands before but the guy on the packaging won the 67 mens singles at the All Englands championships. Now the plastics seemed a little stiff and brittle but I kid you not the feather shuttles were perfect. We played all night and were only on our second shuttle. The cardboard tube was falling apart but the shuttles themselves were the best I have played with. Lasted longer that AS30's. I have no idea of the age but the guy who owned the house thinks he hasn't played for around 20-30 years... Have a look see if you can age the tube. If it helps it was sealed with metal discs at either end.
Blimey they do look good and very old school! That's one thing about feather shuttles, I love playing with them, the quality and speed is so much better than plastics but they just don't seem to last that long! Things were always better years ago I wouldn't know in honesty being 23 I can't seem to find that make anywhere.....? obviously not in circulation....
They don't make them like that anymore I bet the feathers are yellow now. Post a few pictures of the vintage shuttles please!
I knew the guy on the shuttle tube had won in 1967 but couldn't remember if it was singles or doubles. Turns out it was both. Gents name was Erland Kops. (good old Wikipedia) No the feathers were still bright white. I will try and get few photos of the shuttles.
Finally got a hold of one of the shuttles. I had been used for a full game at the club the other night. The blue band on the cork is actually ribbon and says SONDICO
