kwun made a very interesting and insightful point of LXR being a thinking player during her Olympic final match with WYH. I couldn't agree with him more, indeed an intelligent, analytical ability during play is a key factor to success - it's what separates the champions from the also-rans.

Watch it here http://vimeo.com/48955255#at=0
Obviously, LXR wasn't at her Olympic best, having to continually attend media activities and celebrations with Lin Dan and other gold medallists, so was somewhat lethargic and out of practice from lack of systematic training, a bit more error-prone than usual; even so I must admit Lu Lan played quite impressively, who put up a spirited performance to get the better of the Olympic Champion, LXR,the player everyone wants to beat at the moment no matter what form she's in.
In G3, Lu Lan despite pulling her lower back/upper right thigh muscle went on to win 21-19... (I'd better not say too much and spoil your viewing pleasure). Suffice to say,Lu Lan,the now 25-yr-old ex-World Champion(2009) and veteran (born May 2, 1987) showed that on her day she could still trouble the world's best. Might she be making a comeback from here, I wonder, apparently delighted after having overcome the newly-minted Olympic Champion?
You're absolutely right, the depth in strength of Chinese badminton, including their former national players not just new up-and-coming ones, is phenomenal and unmatched anywhere in the world.

I just watched the LXR vs YPY Olympics QF match. LXR has problems with YPY's power. If YPY was more consistent, she would have beaten LXR already. If LXR didn't improve, she will be following WSX, Lu Lan and Zhu Lin's fate.

Not on youtube. It's on www.nbcolympics.com. You can select badminton, then result. And for each match, you can click full replay.

Well... LXR won this match in 2 sets and went on to win the gold. If she still needs improvement so does everyone. Power is not worth so much without consistency. LXR has got it both. Also WSX does not yet have a fate, she is just in a dip.

Li Xuerui, if it ever crosses your mind to rest on your laurels, I urge you to banish the thought immediately. You cannot afford to and it will be foolish of you at such a young age having achieved so little as compared to what you are capable of in the future.
Don't ever let sudden fame and fortune get into your head as it can come and go just as quickly. With your abundance of natural talent, youth and the resources available to you as a China player, it will be such a shame not to capitalize on it to maximise your chances at greater achievements for as long as you can. Such opportunities as yours are extremely hard to come by...need I say more.
Your pinnacle is still a long way off. Strive for it, you can do it! My heartfelt wish to see you among the all-time greats if not the greatest one day.
