    For us PAWers, we are wishing for;

    * Yao Xue (Q) to defeat Tine Baun [7] (for 38 points)
    * Han Li (Q) to defeat Petya Nedelcheva (for 32 points)

    :D:D:D

the immense skewed point balance really do not reflect the real potential of the players... so much in favor of the qualifiers that most rational PAWers will just "speculate at the wildest" to reap the point benefits :p

    Diplomacy at its best

Noticed how they have allocated the matches on the TV court.
    - 5 CHN (to be expected as they have the highest representation)

    - 2 DEN
    - 2 TPE
    - 2 IND
    - 2 MAS
    - 2 KOR

    Then
    - 1 HKG
    - 1 GER
    - 1 THA
    - 1 JPN

We get to see pretty much a player from each nation on the TV court. Ironically, no INA. Did they do something to piss off the organizers or BWF? Maybe choosing the SEA Games over the HK Open?

Yeah, they should show the XD match between Natsir/Ahmad and Denmark. It is probably quite even.

Badminton: Women seeds stumble as Gade edges through at China Open

    Posted: 23 November 2011 2117 hrs

SHANGHAI: Fourth seed Saina Nehwal and sixth seed Juliane Schenk were shock casualties at the China Open in Shanghai on Wednesday, where Dane ace Peter Gade battled all the way to avoid becoming a third victim.

India's Nehwal was upset by Korean Youn Joo Bae 15-21, 24-22, 21-15 in a match that lasted just over an hour, while Hong Kong shuttler Yip Pui Yin dispatched with sixth seed Juliane Schenk of Germany 21-18, 19-21, 25-23.

Schenk, apparently upset at a lineman's call, threw her racket to the floor and sat down on the court for nearly a minute, before going on to suffer her second straight first-round loss in a row.

In the men's singles, Denmark's fourth-seeded Peter Gade had to dig deep to win his qualifying round match in a fierce showdown against 23-year-old South Korean Ho Shon-Wan, 21-13, 20-22, 22-20.

It took Gade an hour and 22 minutes to finish off the young Korean he twice defeated before in straight sets in Indonesia and Japan.

After the match, Gade explained that his preparations for this week's $350,000 Shanghai tournament had suffered because of a build-up of fluid in his ankle, keeping him off the practice courts for two weeks earlier this month.

He said he picked up the Achilles tendon injury in May and it had been bothering him ever since.

"I'm a bit annoyed I couldn't finish (Shon) off in the second (set) and also in the third," Gade said, "but he was going very sharp and very close to the line at the end of the first set.

"But I'm very happy that I pulled through. It was a tough game. Tomorrow will be equal."

China's top-seeded men won their matches more easily, as second seed Chen Long dispatched with Kai Wen of Hong Kong 21-14, 21-18, while fifth seed Chen Jin beat Indonesia's Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka 21-15, 21-14.

Jin said he is eyeing Gade's fourth place world ranking since Federation rules would allow him to gain a third Olympic spot in the China team if he and teammates Lin Dan and Chen Long could finish in the world's top four in May.

"I won't allow myself to be tired. There's only a half a year before the Olympics, so every day I must be focused."

China's women also have London on their minds, as they compete in Shanghai.

First seed Wang Shixian of China said after her victory over Thailand's Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-7, 21-14 that she was focused on the narrow margin dividing her and her teammates, second-seed Wang Yihan and third-seed Wang Xi.

"The score for Olympics rankings is not much different from the persons who are below my scores so every match is very important. Also, my opponents play very consistently so there's pressure so I have to try my best," said Wang.

No INA players on TV court for 2 reasons:
    1. 2 out of the 3 matches involving INA players are all-INA matches. No point showing them. I expect Simon and Kido/Hendra to win.

    2. The other one involves Towi/Butet vs an aging ex WC winner. I think Towi/Butet will beat them.

I notice the potential WO match in XD involving Hong Wei/Pan Pan and Tao Jiaming/Xia Huan as the winner will possibly face Towi/Butet in the QF. I expect the CHN coach to let Hong/Pan win as they had beaten the INA pair once.

SURNAME First name - incorrect and inconsistent addressing

WEN Kai is a mainland China's player, the Q3 winner :D

SURNAME First name (for Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese players)

Too bad that BWF registered some Chinese players incorrectly such as HUAN Xia whereas Xia is incorrectly treated as the surname, accordingly TS is also wrong as well as having some of ITS OWN inconsistencies in putting the names of Chinese players, therefore one will find the confusing addressing like:

    WD: Jinhua TANG/HUAN Xia (CHN)
    WD: JING Xie/BAO Yixin (CHN)
    XD: TAO Jiaming/HUAN Xia (CHN)

whereas in all instances here the TANG, HUAN, JING, BAO, TAO, WEN and so on constitute the SURNAME.

The two-syllable Chinese names will be especially tough to recognize for those unfamiliar with them (which one is surname or first name) once it's put incorrectly.

All involved parties are just reckless and ignorant!

And why don't they just CAPITALIZE THE SURNAME (like in passport way) to identify it more easily and properly???

    IMHO,
    1. Yes, me too... Nowadays it seems Taufik is lack motivation and Markis/Hendra still tough opponent for their young teammate.
    2. Ehmmm... sometimes Tontowi/Butet inconsistent. But, hopefully they can win today! :)

I can't believe it. CCTV, the national TV network of China, is not telecasting China Open but a curling match. It seems nobody cares about badminton any more.

Wang Xin - Porntip, expect short rallies as both players are fond of attacking at the first instance, should be exciting to watch

Dang! PP/CS edged G1 21-18. Kim Ha Na's defence fell apart at the end game.
