Differences between tennis and badminton

1. Tennis are made up of mostly sideways movement. Badminton will get you moving mostly forward and backwards.

2. Tennis balls can be reused until the air inside it disappears. Shuttlecocks are often 'destroyed' in a single session.

3. Your score 'four' points in a (normal) single tennis set to win. Your score 15 points to win a (normal) set in badminton.

4. A tennis ball can bounce once on the ground before it must be hit over the net. A shuttle cannot touch the ground at any given time.

5. You have a second chance to serve in tennis if the first done is a fault. You only serve once in badminton unless you play doubles.

6. Tennis racquets can take 40lbs of string tension. Do that to a badminton racquet and you'll hear it crack and your wallet bursting into fire.

7. Tennis is played on grass at the lovely courts of Wimbledon during summer. Try doing that with badminton and you'll trip.

8. You always serve from behind the baseline in tennis. In badminton, you always serve in front of the baseline.

9. You serve in tennis (usually) by hammering the ball to the ground on the other side of the net. Do that with a shuttle and you gain yourself a fault in badminton. (Not to mention puzzled glances from people around you)

10. Some prefer two handed backhand shots for more power in tennis. Absolutely nobody holds a racquet with both hands in badminton.

Similarities in tennis and badminton

1. Both game uses raqcuets.

2. Both games uses nets stretched across courts.

3. Yonex

4. Both games have men's and women's singles, doubles and mixed events.

5. Both are contested as medal events in the Olympics.

6. The biggest events are played in England - Wimbledon for tennis, All-England for badminton. (Ok, AE is not the biggest compared to the WC but it's highly prestigious, nonetheless)

7. You 'shake hands' with the racquet when you hold it.

8. Up to 4 people can play badminton or tennis in a single court at a given time.

9. We have badminton and tennis fanatics all over the globe.

10. Both have racquet strings of a variety of colours. (Ok, I was running out of ideas).

Badminton: jump smashes many times in a row, can’t do that in tennis.
Tennis: hit a winner by returning a 100+ mile/hr service, can’t do that in badminton.

Badminton - you can win enough to buy air fare.
Tennis - you could win enough to buy an airplane...

Badminton - TV coverage can be interrupted by late breaking news.
Tennis - news reports can be interrupted by overtime.

Tennis - games can be called on account of rain.
Badminton - courts get jammed when tennis players crowd in to play badminton during rain delays....

Football players consider both as woosie sports.

Badminton and Tennis players takes same pleasure in humiliating those snotty football jocks on the courts.

Friendly fire can happen in both sports. Partners can get a ball or a shuttle driven up the butt by a wild partner.

More differences:

Badminton smells like sweat. Tennis smells like coconut sun block - PF50.

You get to wear cool shades playing tennis. In badminton you get to wear those GEEK_Master_2000 Polystyrene Eye-Protectors that sweat like a sauna.

Badminton will cost you $5 to play and $20 in shuttles. Tennis will cost you $20 to book to play and $5 in balls - that you can reuse (see earlier post).

Here's one for controversy - more hot chicks play tennis in hot outfits. Hot badminton chicks are rare and there's no such thing as a hot badminton outfit....

I won't really say so... Zhou Mi looks pretty ... 'hot' in her all red outfit against Gong Ruina in the WC2003 semis...

Difference:

1. When tennis elites retire, they think about how to spend all the $$$. When badminton elites retire, they think about how to earn just enough to live for the rest of their lives.

2. Tennis players willing to live in the "West", but badminton players dream about traveling to the "East".

3. If u r less than 5'6 now days, just foget about ur tennis "pro life", but u still have the chance be the next "GZC" or "Susi".

4. Tennis serve is about "going down", badminton serve is about "going up".

5. A little bit cool wind blowing around will be extra bonus for tennis matches, it will be a night mare if happens for badminton facility

6. In tennis XD, it's about the guys. In badminton XD, very possible, the result is about the girls.

- in tennis, the rally begin by smashing at your opponents, with minimum 2 tries. Badminton rally begin at a neutral position service (almost).

- watching tennis doubles is more boring than watching video pong game.

- tennis players get so many breaks for rest.

- tennis players should learn to use more clear lobs.

- badminton is more 3-D

- if IBF is not so strict, pro badminton players will wear hot outfits

- in serve, hitting the tape (and then in court) is a re-serve. In badminton, it's a great serve.

- a jumpsmash feel way better than any tennis strokes.

Now, now you're going to get us into trouble again ;P But from the hot players thread find Carola Bott's grey number, and on the next page her white singlet/bike shorts number, admittedly I'm not sure as to whether they meet the clothing requirements but hey ;P

How about:

Holding a tennis ball in your shorts pocket is a bit more comfortable than a prickly shuttlecock.

While playing badminton I've never had to run the length of a sloping parking lot to fish a shuttlecock out of the storm drains.

Shuttlecocks stay in place once they've landed. Tennis balls roll and roll and roll - yeah - into the storm drains. heheheh.

Once I said to a tennis coach I didn't like to pick up the balls. The reply was "it's part of the game". Must be part of my dry humour to think "tennis pro's don't pick up the tennis balls". Badminton pro's almost always pick up the shuttles.

Playing in Olympic for tennis elites are night mare - no ranking pts, no attractive prize, pride of nationality... hmmm... , easy chance of injury --> quit if u can.

Playing in Olympic for badminton elites are an ultimate goal - fight as hard as u can, and one of the most important mark in ur resume + reasonable prize + rare medals for Olympic "minority forces" (Malaysia, Indonesia, etc)
