It would be insensible and unwise of LCW should he not reply such courteous and sincere gesture or socialize with such a fellow sports person. “RESPECT AND KNOW YOUR FELLOW COMPETITORS WELL”; that's the signature of a true champion.

While LD had and will always look upon LCW as the driving force behind his progress, LCW would be foolish to regard himself as the one and only, and look upon others as enemies to be defeated. To achieve greatness, one has to realize that “THE GREATEST ENEMY OF ALL IS NONE OTHER THAN ONESELF”.

But of course; it takes a strong character and a sound mentality to realize that. IMO; this is the big difference between these two great master of the game.

guys, i think you all have given them too many credits for someone who just paid a simple visit to a changing room.

At the end of the day, it's all show biz, you will be foolish to think that they hate each other.....

True too. LCW is the only non CHN player that he can communicate with; and apparently when asked by reporters what they talk about on the podiums that they've been sharing for the past many years, their reply is that they always talk about cars.

I hope they are also talking about playing doubles together after the Olympics. LD cover the left side and LCW cover the right side!

LD is a student of "the art of war by Sun Tzu". Keep your friends close your enemies closer.

I think this shows LCWs humbleness, which I admire very much, I am not sure LD would have paid him a visit to chat, if LD had lost the match, or would appreciate a friendly visit by LCW after a loss!!

Though I can't shake the feeling that he just wants to rub it in..But I hope I am wrong, that he just wants to make a nice gesture.

I agree with other posters that these two probably have great mutual respect and can even become great friends.. They are the two giants and face eachother much more frequently than any other players and on top of that both speak chineese which probably helps alot :-D

Thumbs up Let opponents be friendly after their matches are over

    .
From what I see at tournaments, many opponents would not like to visit or talk to one another before they play against each other. They wish to concentrate in their task of defeating each other.

However, after their matches are over, many opponents do mix with and talk to each other. They are much relaxed and they will show their friendliness.

If I were BWF, I would organise a party for all players participating in the tournament after the Finals (on the night of Finals Day).

I know that BWF organise such a party for the participants only for the SS Finals Tournament at the end of the year. IMHO, BWF should organise such a party for every tournament (to get all players to celebrate together after the tournament is over).

Maybe all hosts/organisers could take a cue from this year's Indonesia Open PSS, where the international players and others were invited to participate and interact in social/cultural events that had been specially arranged. Plus of course, the parties! IMO, the carnival atmosphere contributed a lot to making it the outstanding success it was. And the players thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A total win-win-win-win situation...
