    [h=3]Monday December 12, 2011[/h] [h=1]Good news for Koo-Tan as Lee-Jung skip Masters Finals[/h] [h=2]By RAJES PAUL[/h]

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles specialists Lee Yong-dae and Jung Jae-sung of South Korea served a double blow to their fans yesterday.
The Korean top pair first lost in their home Grand Prix Gold men’s doubles final and then announced that they would be skipping the Super Series Masters Finals, which begins in Liuzhou, China, on Wednesday. The duo cited Jae-sung’s arm injury as the reason for their decision.
World No. 2 Yong-dae and Jae-sung went down 15-21, 22-24 to compatriots Ko Sung-hyun and Yoo Yeon-seong in the final largely due to Jae-sung’s injury. Jae-sung and Yong-dae said they hoped to come back stronger for the lucrative US$1.2mil South Korea Open and the Malaysia Open next month.
Their decision is good news for Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong as they now have one threat less from South Korea in the Masters Finals, which is the final tournament of the year for the Malaysians to salvage some pride.
Yong-dae-Jae-sung will likely be replaced by reserves Alven Yulianto-Hendra Gunawan of Indonesia.
The other six qualifiers are China’s Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng, Guo Zhengdong-Chai Biao; Denmark’s Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen; Japan’s Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Noriyasu Hirata and Indonesia’s Mohd Ahsan-Bona Septano.
National coach Tan Kim Her, who was with the Malaysian team in South Korea, said Jae-sung’s injury had got worse.
“Yong-dae told me that they are not making the trip to China because of Jae-sung’s injury and the Grand Prix Gold was their last tournament for the year,” said Kim Her.
“Jae-sung needs treatment and Yong-dae felt that a short break would do them good. They have had a hectic season,” he said.
In their absence, Sung-hyun-Yeon-seong will still pose a familiar threat to Kien Keat-Boon Heong, who have developed a phobia for South Korean opposition. The Malaysians have not beaten the South Korean No. 2 pair in their last six meetings.
In fact, Sung-hyun-Yeon-seong are now ranked one rung higher than the world No. 5 Kien Keat-Boon Heong.
“Koo and Tan have shown some improvement and we are looking forward to their best performances this year at the Super Series Masters Finals. It’s good that one of the South Korean pairs is out,” said Kim Her.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong are looking more confident since coming under the charge of Pang Cheh Chang and two-time South Korean Olympic Games silver medallist Yoo Yong-sung. All they need now are some good results to get their groove back.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong and world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei left for Liuzhou yesterday with their coaches. Chong Wei won the men’s singles title in the last three Masters Finals while Kien Keat-Boon Heong were doubles winners at the inaugural event in 2008.

    Oh no, really bad news....
But I already wondered how ko/yoo won on Sunday, bc lee/jung are one or at least a half class better than the 2nd kor pair.

I hope that all the other players stay fit and healthy for a spectacular season final!!

"We are here to win" said Jung Jae Sung

    .
And Jung Jae Sung said "I've actually had this injury on my shoulder for many years, so it's not going to affect my participation in this tournament for sure. We have come here to compete and we are here to win."

Today news article from thestar malaysia.

Jung will soldier on despite injured arm
LIUZHOU: Stocky South Korean Jung Jae-sung (pic) is one shuttler who does not understand the meaning of pain.
Yesterday, the 29-year-old Jae-sung showed his fortitude and iron will when he turned up to compete in the men’s doubles of the US$500,000 Super Series Masters Finals despite an injured playing arm. The Korean is convinced that he and partner Lee Yong-dae still have a chance despite the handicap.

“I have gotten used to playing with a sore arm,” Jae-sung said yesterday.
“This is an old injury which has not bothered me before and I will not let it affect me now.
“We are here to win and I intend to give it my best shot.”
Jae-sung’s injury worsened during the Korean Grand Prix Gold on Sunday and the duo went down in the final against compatriots Ko Sung-hyun-Yoo Yeon-seong.
Whatever the outcome in the next few days, Jae-sung knows that even if he finishes last in the group with Yong-dae, he gets to take home a minimum US$3,500.
The men’s doubles champions will receive US$42,000, runners-up US$20,000, semi-finalists US$10,000 and third place in the group is worth US$6,500.
Jae-sung and Yong-dae open against Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong. The others in Group B are Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark and Indonesia’s Mohd Ahsan-Bona Septano.
Four-time world champions Cai Yun-Haifeng of China are in Group A with compatriots Chai Biao-Guo Zhengdong, Sung-hyun-Yeon-seong and Japan’s Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Noriyasu Hirata.
