I don't know the "exact" rules.
but I know little of it.
first is look at matches player/pair won. sort from highest to lowest.
if two player/pair have the equal score for the matches, then look for the total game, sort from highest to lowest.
if two player/pair have the equal score for the games, then look for the total points, sort from highest to lowest.

hope you understand what i mean. :D

i understand how "matches won" are determined, it is pretty simple... you can either win or lose... (there is no tie)...

but for games won, is it the games difference? ie, the number of games won minus the number of games lost?

for points, is it points difference??

    As far as I know;

The top player/pair is the one to win the most number of matches in their group.

If the number of matches won are the same, then look at the most number of games won.

If the number of matches and games won are the same, then look at the most number of points won.

Some said to look at the difference between the matches, games and points won; But I believe it is not.

i found the rules.. it's Part III section 1A.. Regulation 16.2.... i was scratching my head as to who won at Group A of WS...

"16.2 In case of Individual Championships:
16.2.1 Ranking in individual championships will be established by the number of matches won.
16.2.2 If two players / pairs have won the same number of matches, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher.
16.2.3 If three or more players / pairs have won the same number of matches, ranking will be established by the difference between total games won and total games lost, with greater difference ranked higher.
16.2.3.1 If this still leaves two players / pairs equal, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher.
16.2.4 If three or more players / pairs have won the same number of matches and are equal in the difference between total games won and total games lost, ranking will be established by the difference between total points won and total points lost, with greater difference ranked higher.
16.2.4.1 If this still leaves two players / pairs equal, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher.
16.2.4.2 If three or more players / pairs are still equal, then ranking will be established by drawing lots.
16.2.5 If illness, injury, disqualification or other unavoidable hindrance prevents a player / pair completing all the pool matches, all the results of that player / pair shall be deleted. Retiring during a match shall be considered to be not completing all pool matches.
16.2.6 A player / pair is entitled to prizes according to results actually obtained before any withdrawal due to injury."

i might have found the rules, but I am not sure I understand it entirely...

after all three matches, WYH is ahead of Tine because WYH won more games than Tine, right? not because of h2h result between the two, right?

Tine is ahead of Sung because Tine won the h2h between them, right? not because of games difference, right?

When you read these types of rules, treat their order/number as the important order.

WYH is ahead of Tine because of 16.2.2. Similarly, Tine is ahead of Sung because of 16.2.2.

Comparing WYH and Sung, WYH won more points than Sung (16.2.4).

There is no need to go further down the list (of rules/conditions).

I don't understand how 16.2.2 tell us why Tine is ahead of Sung..... you meant 16.2.3 (including its sub-rule 16.2.3.1), right?

Those rules apply for group matches. What about semi? Can they walkover or retire?

    16.2.2 states that;

If two players / pairs have won the same number of matches, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher.

Tine defeated Sung, therefore Tine is ranked higher.

But Sung defeated WYH, so Sung should be ranked higher.

I don't understand... But 16.2.2 will apply if there are only two players have won the same number of matches.... in this case, THREE players have won the same number of matches...

From Semi-Finals onward, the knock-out/elimination system comes into play.

Can they give walkover and/or retire? Of course they can.

No player or pair is forced to play if they are not up to it. This is when match-fixing can be used (sorry that Badminton is not an individual participation sport, but an inter-nation association sport). :p:p:p

so WYH is ahead of Tine because of H2H??? not game differences?

Hmm, maybe so. WYH also beat Tine.

Sung, she has won 4 games, lost 3, lost more points than she won. Plus Sung lost to Tine. Both reasons I think, if according to the rules.See the tourney software link

I don't think WYH is ahead of Tine because of number of games won.... the number of games won is irrelevant (unlike the number of matches won)...

    Priority of Decisive factors
Step 1. Number of matches won... If two players won the same number of matches, then H2H result determines the ranking.. If three or more players won the same number of matches, then go to Step No. 2...
    2. games difference is the second decisive factor... If two players won the same games differences, then H2H result determines the ranking.... If three or more players have the same game differences, then go to Step No. 3...
    3. Point difference......If two players won the same point differences, then H2H result determines the ranking.... If three or more players have the same point differences, then we DRAW!!!!

    thanks for digging them out.
it's very clear with all 3 players won 2 matches, so go straight to 16.2.3
as SJH's game difference is 1, worse than the other 2 so she go straight to No 3.
then 16.2.3.1 states that WYH is the winner as she won the match against TB.
