2011 BC People's Choice Awards -- MS Category

Finally, it's that time of year again! When we get together and come to a decision who the BC People's Choice Awards will go to.

This year, I have created separate threads for each discipline, so you will find 5 threads, for MS, WS, MD, WD and of course, XD!

This is the MS (Men's Singles) thread.

Like last year's Awards, some are serious, and some are seriously fun!

But none of the categories are created to run down any player, or association, or country. I just think I should make that clear.

Now, if any of you think that we need to add some other category other than those I have created, please send in your comment or recomendation!

The deadline for the final choices, is January 10. The winners will then be announced on the next day.

So without further ado, here are the categories for the BC People's Choice Awards in MS.

Men's Singles
Player of the Year.
Goofball of the Year.
Resurgent Player of the Year.
Defective Cyborg of the Year.
Shooting Star of the Year.
Saddest Story of the Year.
Most Handsome Player of the Year.
Most Popular Player of the Year.
Best-potential Young Player of the Year.

I have to give some more thought to the other categories but I'm going to Chen Long with the Shooting Star of the year. Yeah he had the big upset with Kevin Cordon but came back even stronger after that defeat. It seems that loss actually was a big wake up call for him to get serious and that he wasn't fulfilling his potential. By defeating LCW three times this season where previously he hadn't been a challenge for him, I think Chen Long has begun to tap into his potential to be the next top singles player in badminton. I have no doubt he will be world #1 after LD and LCW retire. The question is who of the current new generation from ranks 5-20 will rise up to follow CL.

edit: I'm also not quite sure what you mean by shooting star, do you mean the most improved player?

Actually, my interpretation was for someone who rose up very rapidly, made a big stir at some point during the year, and then maybe fizzled out somewhat.

But then, if you feel you like CL or someone else there, and if it sounds good for you, then it must be right!
