When you see your opponent play with someone else, how do you study his weaknesses? What do the coaches note down when they see someone playing?

Is there any good format in which you can study and note down the strong points and weaknesses after watching your opponent play?

No specific format for me to assess strengths and weaknesses.

But basic stuff like foot speed vs hand speed. Backhand. Body shots if tall. Drives, net, smashes. Whether they are susceptible to deception. Etc.

Certain coaches has his own way to analyse his own player and their opponent's way of play and in fact anyone, a spectator for an example (if he himself is a player) also can make a general summary of what a player is lacking, he need to do that and this, avoid doing this and that, increase his speed etc from just observing how the player plays but then, it's in the eyes of a very experience coach that all the critical, fine, winning details that eventually can change the course of the game into a winner is a skill that can't be oulined here.

IMHO, to study your opponent strength and weaknessess is a skill that varies from one individual to another and the outcome of such analysis is influence very much in regards with the depth of knowledge and experience that one individual has and therefore, producing a winning formula analysis cannot be easily define in words, alone make it into a formal format. It's an art by itself....and no coach will reveal what details they're writing in their secret coaching book here.

However, as for references, a general analysis guideline still can be made just to facilitate proper decision making in order to know what is your weaknesss and strength as well your opponent weakness and strength that can be used for self improvement.

To simplyfy your analysis, just remember that strength indicates the abilities to gain a winning point or the abilities to create an opportunity for a winning point. Meanwhile weakness, at the other spectrum is the tendency to give away points. For every point gain and lost, indicate it and related it to what aspect in your opponent gameplay that is contributing to it. At the end the game, make a summary of strong and negative points to support all the points that your opponent gain and lost, why he manage to gain it and why he has loose it.
