Hi all. I have been using a yonex carbonex 25 for the last 8 years. i love the feel and balance. control is excellent but it lacks power in the rear court for those high jump smashes. i play xd and md doubles so like the speed of the racket but it lacks power. it is currently strung with bg80 at 25lbs.I want to change my racket for something with more power but without losing the control or feel.Can anyone help?
Have you tried any Isometric Head shape rackets? If yes, what isometric head shape rackets have you tried ?
Some would consider it as a downgrade, but if you like to stay with the Carbonex range, the 21 would be a great choice to consider.
Hi Lucin. yes i have used a vt 80 but find it very head heavy and cumbersome and owned a yonex iso a long time ago. I would give isos another go put prefer the traditional shape.Thanks

If you want to stick to Oval head shape which you mean by traditional head shape, try to have a look at Carbonex 21 & try it.. For Iso head shape, since you said VT 80 is head heavy which is also its characteristic, you could try the following : 1. NS 9900 - Head light & stiff racket, very fast in Defense & smash very well too 2. Arc 7 - Quite evenly balanced, good racket for double & single ( head heavier than NS9900, not much though ) 3. Arc 10 - Even balanced with the head being heavier than Arc 7, shaft is stiffer too.. Please try before buying a racket, since you are still in consideration between ISO & OVAL head shape..
Hi Licin, Thanks for your reply. I found the vt80 to head heavy as use to using my cab25sp which is a light racket. I think it will take me too long to get used to it plus it is very expensive. What are your thoughts on the vt70 and other brands. I like an even balance with control and power but will give anything a go.
@diverdan I have owned VT70 before and sold it to a friend.. . For me it is definitely head lighter than VT80, you could try it also.. However if you want me to choose between VT70 & Arc 10, i will pick Arc 10.. My opinion could be wrong, at that time i don't have enough time to play with other string & tension, therefore my opinion could be bias. Again, it is best for you to try the racket first.. What rackets do your friend usually carry?
Good to hear that... A couple of times hitting shuttle by racket would give more meaningful feel of the racket rather than just a few swings..
Go for the Arc10 if you want to stay with Yonex. Go for the MX80 if you want Victor. Both are stiff (with MX80 slightly stiffer) and slightly head heavy. Good power and control.
The Arc 8DX is a slightly improved Arc10 especially since you can string it at a higher tension. Its neither the fastest nor the most powerful. Its got the right balance in the weight of the head for the right amount of speed for the right amount of power great all rounder
alternatively you could purchase online from japan online store who ship to england YY Japan still sells (A) Carbonex 30 MS, or (B) Carbonex 35. Both rackets are available in 3U or 2U specs. IMHO - Cab 30 MS is the creme de la creme of Carbonex series.
It would be good to be able to try all these top end rackets before buying them but we are limited in the UK and shops seldom do top end demo rackets.
Or... You play regularly in a badminton club & make a good friend with couples of Badminton racket maniacs... Therefore, You might be able to try almost all of high end rackets but of course without your desired string & tension...
Ok. So ive tried a couple of rackets and this is what I found. The vt80 is too head heavy for me as I am used to playing with an even balanced racket and it is too much of a jump. Plus it looks too flash and has too many gimmicks. The armotec 900t is a lovely racket but lacks power for smashing which in doubles counts for a lot. Then I went back to my cab 25 which I found to weigh a ton. I put in on the kitchen scales and it came in at 101g!! A lot of shoulder power needed to move it. So next on the to try list is the arc 8dx and the n50ii.
