Istora; Nothing Compares
Nothing compares to Istora's rumble and the Indonesian badminton fans' uproar. The atmosphere at Istora is never quiet. The people there always cheer to give spirit for their favorites. Either from Indonesia or non-Indonesia athletes they admired.
For instance, the people gave a full support for Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen from Denmark who played against Malaysian Double Koo Kean Keat/Tan Boon Heong. Unpleasant sentiments when Malaysian atheletes were in action made the public supported the Denmark's Double, they are also thankful for this.
"We are truly thankful to the people who supported us, we are very pleased being able to win. And Istora was indeed one of our favorite places, Here the atmosphere is always festive," Boe admitted after the match.
The overseas photographer too praised Istora's crowds. "I have seen many games in many countries, but only Indonesia has this enthusiasm, and I love it," Yves, a Badminton Photo stated.
Istora has its own characteristic. With strong enthusiasm and Badminton culture make Istora so magical to whoever performs here. "Playing at Istora too have its own challenge," Said former athlete, Luis Pongoh.
Istora, assemble your energy for tomorrow's final!

Saina: I Feel Like Home
Indonesia is indeed one of Saina Nehwal's favorite places. How it isnt? This will be Saina's fourth final (in Indonesia). She was once a champion in 2009 and 2012, while last years she was stunned by Wang Yihan in the ultimate match.
This time, Saina too has leveled her previous record where she could breach final round. She reached final after stunning Korean's Single, Sung Ji Hyun in two games straight, 22 - 20 and 21 - 18.
"Yesterday I played longer and it was quite exhausting but I am delighted to win this game," Saina admitted.
Saina also thanked to the supporters who stoodd behind her at Istora. "I am really thankful, there are many people here who support me, I feel like at home," She stated.
For tomorrow's final, she will play with nothing to lose and try to enjoy the match. "The last time I lost from Li was in All England, so tomorrow I am going to play and enjoy it as well as not putting much pressure," she said.
Saina will take on Li Xeurui who stunned the first seed as well as defending champion Wang Yihan with 21 - 17 and 21 - 14.

Sorry miksss, I am not the one for lounging around - aka not-having-a-pass-to-take-sneek-pictures-of-the-players-lounge ......
Instead, what I have, are these ......
The new "facelift" for a historic arena
Where you need a map to navigate through
And if you are poor with maps, just follow the signs
Food booths dominate - new on the menu, is sushi .....
There are also celebrity bazaars. Err, I suppose they are selling their personal clothing? Among the, ahem, celebrities is a certain Miss Polii
PB Djarum merchandise too .......
Where you get a sneek peek of the Djarum girls from half a mile away
The live scoreboards are powered by big touchscreen sets ..... nice menu configuration too. You can see anything, including players' particulars
And there's an, ahem, clothing design competition, using shuttlecock-based material .....

Inside the Istora .....
Here are some, err, classical pictures within the Istora building .....
Nicely lined corridor ......
With a meet and greet place
OSIM Booths - this is one of them
BliBli online retailer store .... watch out for their "stewardesses", dressed in old Pan Am style uniform of the 1960s. Yup, the stewardesses would prove to be the Djarum Girls' biggest challenge.
Badminton challenge booth - virtual badminton, that is
More info screen, held up heroically by DIO .... pity the guy
Recharge station - mobiles and camera totting folks jostle to take positions halfway thru the q-final and semi final sessions
And this - is not the picture of the Istora. This is the Secretariat booth at the Sultan Hotel.

By now, some of you hot blooded guys would be swearing for the most important things, rite? Sure, let me indulge you in how, err, I made preparations to capture the most captivating images and delicate curves .....
First - the training:
I went to downtown Jakarta by one of the cheapest means of public transportation available, for "centralized sneaky picture taking training".
Hop in to the Transjakarta busway
Where you should expect to stand - half of the bus is already allocated to women
My training pictures - as you can see, none of the statues and, err, horse noticed me taking their pics. Yup, I am primed for battle already ......

Here Comes ........
......... the pictures of the Arena at night ....... Haa, I bet someone was already talking "Djarum Girls" or "BliBli Pan Am Stewardess". Patience is a virtue.
As the day turned into night, it was prime time to ...
Go and grab some dinner .....
While others prefer to play badminton
Supporters eyes glued to ......
..... this TV screen, as the battle between INA and CHN XD went to its climactic end
while chanting IN-DO-NE-SIA, prok prok prok prok prok (sound of the "battle"sticks)
Others just stay out ..... idly waiting for their loved ones
Some take advantage of the Support Wall
Which I indulged in too ......

1. pack up and check out
2. go to the Djarum Indonesia Open finals
3. take a cab to the airport
4. fly home
5. see the Group B conclusion of EURO 2012
The stewardesses and the Djarum girls, err, maybe later .......

It is now time to show .........
....... the players antics on court.
Some of the most memorable moves here:
Desperate dive from Meiliana Jauhari, and the shuttle landed in to Japanese disbelief .....
Kasyap with a diagonal winner
LYD going down
LYD has his revenge
06-17-2012, 10:40 PM #149
The Danish MD combination may not have won the title, but they had the best gameplan ever - one that practically demolished the visibly slow Malaysian combo .....
Mogensen smashes, and the defensive return goes right to Boe racquet arm. Perfect!!!

This is the first time ........
........ since 1998 that I have not stayed anywhere within the Senayan-Semanggi area when going for INA Open. In fact, I went back to Central Jakarta - where most of top ten hotels are (bar Hotel Mulia, of course).
Pictures of the area:
This is the HI Circus (Bundaran HI) - which is close to the hotel where I stayed in
And if you are up to it - you could walk all the way to the National Monument
In Wonderland, as in the Shopping Wonderland of Grand Indonesia Plaza
06-18-2012, 05:43 AM #151
....... we gravitate towards, more pictures inside the Arena ........
Indonesian Cheeleading squad in action
Long range digital zoom tracking shots of the excellent Gillian Clark
Tian Qing : How did our umpire get to be so, errr, well-endowed?
Zhao Yunlei : I know!! Better be careful we do not get, ahem, enhanced to her multiplus size when we retire and make babies.
The object of the Chinese girls "gossip"
The look on this Malaysian coach's face says it all .....
Whereas his Korean counterpart looked more determined on TV
This loud Korean lady coach ordered 4 packs of "Nasi Gorang" (yup, that's how she pronounced it) to power up Sung Ji Hyun's engine - unfortunately it backfired against Indian Curry .......
