2012 Malaysia Open: Good Luck to our INA players . Received this article from Jakarta Globe; http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/spor...ns-hopes-on-kl-event-for-doubles-title/490405 ====== * ====== start article ====== * ====== As the Malaysia Open Super Series starts today, Indonesian shuttlers continue their quest to end the title drought in badminton’s top tournaments. No Indonesian shuttlers qualified for quarterfinals of the first tournament of the season, the Korea Open, last week in Seoul, which extended the country’s title drought to eight consecutive Super Series since mixed doubles pair Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir won the Singapore Open in June last year. Doubles coach Aryono Miranat said on Tuesday that Indonesian shuttlers, especially men’s and women’s doubles, have a good chance of ending the slump in Kuala Lumpur. “Several top Chinese men’s and women’s doubles are absent from this tournament. That will mean the titles are wide open to grab,” he said. “[Without the Chinese players] it still won’t be an easy tournament because Japan and [South] Korea doubles are also hard to beat. “But, if our shuttlers improve their games and work harder, they have a good chance of winning titles in Malaysia.” Notable Chinese absentees in the women’s doubles are Korea Open winners Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei, and world No. 1 pair Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang. It’s been almost four years since an Indonesia won a Super Series women’s doubles title. The most recent was the 2008 Indonesia Open, when Vita Marissa and Liliyana prevailed at home. There are three women’s doubles combinations that will try to end Indonesia’s drought at Putra Stadium, Kuala Lumpur. Sixth-seeded Greysia Polii and Meiliana Jauhari will open against Eom Hye-won and Jang Ye-na of South Korea, while 2011 Southeast Asian Games champions Nitya Krishinda Maheswari and Anneke Feinya Agustine have a first round match against qualifiers. Vita, who now pairs with Nadya Melati, will have a tough first round against No. 5 seeds Cheng Wen-hsing and Chien Yu-chin of Taiwan. In the men’s doubles, the world’s top three — Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng (China), Lee Yong-dae and Jung Jae-sung (South Korea), and Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen (Denmark) — are also skipping the $400,000 tournament. This would be a good opportunity for Indonesia’s top pair, Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano, to get their career first Super Series title. The No. 5 seeds will play against qualifiers in the first round, but they were drawn in the same half as second-seeded Ko Sung-hyun and Yoo Yeon-seong of South Korea and host favorites Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong. Last week in Seoul, Ahsan and Bona were ousted early, losing to unseeded Japan pair Naoki Kawamae and Shoji Sato in the first round. “I know that we have a big chance to win the title here. But, after the poor result in Korea, we want to be realistic with our chances. I think a semifinal spot would be a good achievement for now,” Bona said. Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan, who won the Malaysia Open in 2008, will start their campaign against Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari. ====== * ====== end article ====== * ====== .
MS Taufik Hidayat vs Chou Tien-Chen - it's increasingly difficult for Taufik to make it to the Olympics. He needs a QF place here. Shon Wan Ho vs Tommy Sugiarto - a tough draw for Tommy and this will be a good practice before the Thomas Cup qualifiers. The Korean has the edge. Ajay Jayaram vs Simon Santoso [7] - Simon should take this. Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka vs Mohd Hafiz Hashim - can Hayom win this one? I don't think he has beaten Hafiz before. WS Wang Yihan [1] vs Adriyanti Firdasari - a tough draw for Firda and it will be difficult for her to qualify for the Olympics. Bae Youn Joo vs Maria Febe Kusumastuti - it will be an upset if Febe can beat Bae. MD Hendra A. Gunawan/Alvent Yulianto Chandra [7] vs Jonas Rasmussen/Mads Conrad-Petersen - a tough match for AG/Alvent...can they beat the Danes? As a seeded pair, they ought to reach QF. Vitalij Durkin/Alexandr Nikolaenko vs Angga Pratama/Rian Agung Saputro - Angga/Rian have been blowing hot and cold since winning their maiden title in Vietnam last August.I hope they can reach R16. Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan [8] vs Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif - Kido/Hendra are in danger of not being able to qualify. A title is badly needed and with the withdrawal of the top 3 MD pairs, this is a golden opportunity that they should not miss out. Liao Min-Chun/Wu Chun-Wei vs Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan [5] - BOna/Ahsan have also been inconsistent since winning the SEA Games Gold in November 2011. They need to reach QF at least to keep their spot in the Olympics. WD Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan vs Anneke Feinya Agustine/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari - it will be a tricky tie against the reigning World Junior champion. Hopefully, Feinya/Nitya can continue their good form. Vita Marissa/Nadya Melati vs Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing [5] - Vita/Nadya need to beat Chien/Cheng to keep their Olympics hope alive. The Taiwanese has the edge. Eom Hye Won/Jang Ye Na vs Meiliana Jauhari/Greysia Polii [8] - Mel/Grace also need to at least reach QF and keep their ranking on track for the Olympics. Hopefully, they can achieve that this week. XD Mohd Rijal/Debby Susanto vs Michael Fuchs/Birgit Michels - it will be a sign of moderate progress if Rijal/Debby can beat the Germans. Nova Widianto/Vita Marissa vs Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter Juhl - the Danes to take this Robert Blair/Gabrielle White vs Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir [4] - with no KOR or CHN or DEN pair in their quarter, Towi/Butet are expected to at least reach SF.
Rijal/Debby took first game 21-16. Now leading 7-6. I notice all 4 matches also already finished their first set. Quickie.
at this rate, Tony/Bach will finish first, and then Liu Xin, Rijal/Debby, and Chen Xu/Ma Jin. . I hope I'm not putting any jinx.
Tony/Howard cross the finish line first 21-13, 21-16 in 25 mins. Looks like Xu/Chen will be next, up 16-9
Oh I am sorry, I think Ma Jin or Xu Chen can read this forums while playing. They don't want the fourth place, now cruising comfortably 20-11 in 2nd set after taking the first set 21-17. And they sealed it. 21-17 21-11 in just 28 minutes.
Muhammad Rijal/Debby Susanto also secured their next round tickets after scoring twins 21-16 21-16 against Fuchs/Michels. First Indonesians in 2nd round. Congrats! I hope this is a good start for Indonesian team. SEMANGAT!
