I was wondering which would be a better wrist action for a smash between flicking your wrist downwards or pronating your forearm....professional players like lcw and lin dan pronate their forearm while compared to my friends they usually would flick their wrist. so which wrist action would be better to create more power for the smash
let me see.... your friend or lcw & ld. Who do you think smashes harder? Who do you think is more likely to have better technique be aware that you will need a different grip for these different methods.
if u feel u can smash beta when u flicking your wrist downwards then its the best if u feel that u can smash beta when u r pronating your forearm, then its the best.. anyway... i feel its best not to compare its the same as u compare 1 person driving a same kind of sports car compared to another which is beta? it depends...
Of course pronation is better. But even doing the pronation there can be a small component of wrist-flicking movement, not really a flick, just a small movement of maybe 40 degrees. The pronation thing is slightly unnatural at first and probably not something you will discover for yourself while playing. But it is so good once you get used to it.
shouldn't the answer be whatever works best for him/her? also you can take a look at some of these videos http://www.youtube.com/user/coachingbadminton also, I quite like his elbow positioning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYmijskCBps&feature=BFa&list=UUILTjkA1qtd37zmo6g9asVw&lf=plcp
Wait seriously? What type of grip should we be using if were pronating? I thought it was just the standard Forehand grip...
Pronation is of course better, however, there is one occasion I can think of in which you would use your wrist to 'flick' If in a game of singles, your Opponent plays a fast lift to your forehand side, then you can quickly jump to intercept it before it goes behind your body and wrist 'flick' which won't be as powerful as pronation, however it will work the same, cause you will be taking the shuttle early and can provide a shock to your opponent as well as creating a good angle from it. Apart from that, pronation all the way...
why don't you combine both? you pronate you're forearm and just as you contact the shuttle you accelerate your racket extra through flicking and follow through with pronation. nitro boost baby!
