Hello everyone, I need some assistance in choosing a racket for my friend. He is(was) a national coach/player and I want to get him a new racket for present and show my gratitude for his coaching(spending time in teaching me this hopeless guy...) and helping with my other stuffs in my life. He is retired now and in his 60s but he is still super fit.... I am going to Hong Kong so I decided to get him a new racket (since he is using his vintage Yonex Carbonex 5 or 7 cannot remember......) He mentioned to me he only wants Yonex. He does not follow all the stiff/flexable, head heavy/light stuff or fancy add on. The only requirement from him is to string the racket (very) tight. Can anyone please suggest some choices please? I assume I will only get the top range one. Through my observation, he is more like a control player rather than smashing/attacking(maybe he is old now). He was mainly a single player. When he says to string it tight, what lb do you guys reckon? Thanks in advance.
4 questions . Since he is coaching you, why not ask him these 4 questions?; (1) What he thinks is the best Yonex racket for you? (2) What he thinks is the best Yonex racket for him? (3) What he thinks is the best string tension for you? (4) What he thinks is the best string tension for him? From the answers to the above 4 questions, you have the answer to your question (without even telling him that you are buying a racket for him. Perhaps, also ask him what string, racket weight and grip/handle size is best for each of you. haha, his answer is forget about the racket, it is your skills that matter. He does not follow those racket stuff and because I am a beginner, I still cannot tell how good/suitable is the racket for him. However, I still want to buy a present for him to show my gratitude. I have already chosen to get a victor BS or SW for myself, but he does not want Victor.

based on his age..i would recommend oval shape frame from yonex. since a lot of oldtimer still prefer oval shape frame compare to iso.. since his racket from carbonex series.. maybe you could buy latest carbonex series availabe in the market.. ..
With his skills, the racket-head shape is not that important . He is one of our Australia's best players in the 1970's (also played in our AUS National team). I can assure you that he can use any racket-head shapes. With his skills, the racket-head shape is not that important. .
hehe i know head shape not important..for a guys aged above 60 and still playing badminton for sure his skill may allow him to used any racket. since he still using carbonex that why i guess he preferred oval shape frame ..
Thanks all, I am using carbonex 35 now.(I don't think it is a good racket for me(a beginner)) I think he is happy to have an Iso head shape racket too! Chris have recommended me/him the Volt 80.
He is a Singles specialist . As Theseed replied, I recommended the Voltric 80 for his coach, CB. Since I know CB personally; these points are what he likes: * Higher sting tension (around 26-28 lbs). * Very sightly head heavy (for his good smashes). * Isometric head for bigger sweet-spot. * He is a Singles specialist (he plays like LCW - If LCW likes it, I am sure he would also like it too). * His defensive play is good (Voltric 80 is perfect for this). .
