Hello everyone, I have been told not to do too many steps during footwork as not to tire myself out, and I improved on that, but most of the time when i smash, (I am right handed by the way), i lift my left knee up and have a little hop on my right foot, I have seen many people do this and I grew fond of it myself, however, many people keep saying I *look funny xD, but this is coming from novice players* as well as some people say I tired myself like that. So any responses overall? Where I should continue and ignore those people?
I guess you lift up yr left knee to balance yr body as you put yr body weight mostly on yr right foot. It is OK because lifting up yr left knee is not going to strain it. Most of the worked out muscles for us badminton players are the right side (for righties). Who cares what people think as long we can execute our shots properly/well.
It's ok if you are a lady j/k. Most ladies do that, even Wang Xin (4:14):
It's pretty common for the top WS players. I guess you mostly do it when you don't have too much time to adjust your feet and do a full power smash.
haha dont worry i knew! i kinda do similar steps, kind've like a one legged hop to get airborne and twist around when hitting the shuttle
I don't think it's embarrissing or sth that you are a guy. It is still a valid way to smash but the top MS players really need the power to penetrate the opponents defence. So you wont see this technique during top MS
