    Default Questions on Level of Play

    Hope someone can enlighten me on the a/m topic...

    1) How do you actually rate your level of play?
    2) What kind of skill set you should possess to be consider a certain level of play? (i.e. if you're a beginner, you should know how to serve, clear baseline to baseline etc.)
    3) Maybe you could explain from beginner > high beginner > intermediate >advance etc.

    Regards. Thanks in advance.

    iirc, there was a post or sticky somewhere about certain strokes and consistency that can determine your level of play

    also, you could post a video of yourself playing in the appropriate forum and we can give you our thoughts...

    Hi there,

    The beginning stage of learning Badminton is the exploratory phase,
    where the player is attempting to learn the correct technique and sequence of
    movements of all the basic skills e.g. serve, return of serve, overhead
    shot. A number of errors may be made and players will need feedback
    to recognize and correct these errors. Initially a player may find it
    difficult to rally and have limited stroke range.

    Skills set: Basic
    Technique of shot: +
    Quality of shot (length of rally, power, placement/accuracy and creativity) : +
    Errors : +++
    Quality of footwork (Agility and coverage) : +
    Physical Endurance : +
    Mentality : +

    During the intermediate stage a player will be performing more
    consistently and with more quality e.g. good length. Timing and
    anticipation will improve although skills may break down under
    pressure in a game situation.

    Skills set: Basic +
    Technique of shot: ++
    Quality of shot (length of rally, power, placement/accuracy and creativity) : ++
    Errors : ++
    Quality of footwork (Agility and coverage) : ++
    Physical Endurance : ++
    Mentality : ++

    At the advanced stage all the basic skills are performed with quality
    and flair . Players are able to concentrate on more detailed aspects of
    the skills and the tactics required, producing surprise elements if
    needed.

    Skills set: Basic +++ with deception
    Technique of shot: +++
    Quality of shot (length of rally, power, placement/accuracy and creativity) : +++
    Errors : +

    I find it very funny in singapore.
    Many people here claim that they are advance level and they only want advance player to join their game. but when I go down to CCk, YCK, YT, etc and observe their game. none of them are advance. The most is intermdiate. They do not know their stroke are all wrong.
    I only can see those coaches are good. At least they know the stroke and tactic.

    Normally, those who say their level are low are usually much better than what they say.
    But those who say they are advance immediately are usually much lower than what they think they are.
    I always think give the basic requirement and ask them come to try out if suit each other

    Do not claim what level you are, I think the best way is to identify in the following manner and judge by your HUMBLE self ( I think BSR is difficult to define):

    1. Primary School level -- can you beat a primary school's player, if yes next.

    2. Secondary School level -- If you can match them or defeat them .

    3. A-level / Poly level -- If you can match them or defeat them.

    4. Inter constuentcy player -- If you can match them or defeat them.

    5. National Junior Level. --- If you can match them or defeat them.

    6. National level.

    If you unable to match or defeat a Secondary school , then call yourself a upper primary lio.....

    Different group have different ratings. But I would say that for most social players, we are at best Intermediate level (could be high intermediate).

    Unless you have proper training for years and have competed before, you won't be able to reach Advance level.

    Very misleading. If your high beginner = high intermediate then what do you classify those who are really beginner ? Novice ?
