    Hi,

sometimes when I tense myself up too much for a smash, I get a sharp pain at the back of the head. It lasts only for like 2 seconds and by the time 5 minutes have gone by, any lingering feelings of pain would have gone. Anybody experienced the same thing? Whats the reason behind it?

    Thanks

It is most likely your neck or shoulder muscles where they attach to your skull.
Make sure that your regular stretching exercises includes neck and shoulder stretches. A few sessions of massage might do wonders, too.
But most importantly, get someone to take a peek and see if that is the right diagnosis. Good Luck. :)

as fidget says, likely your neck and trap muscles

next time, try using a more relaxed grip and remember not to tense up before you smash... only at point of strike do you need to tighten up your grip

otherwise, you'll have to only smash once every 5 minutes :p

Is it a warm/tingly feeling? Possibly a nerve getting tweaked...kind of like when you hit your funny bone?

Last time say if somthing caught my attention and I turn my head 90deg to the side forcefully, I will get this burning sensation around the neck area. Pretty un-nerving (pun points awarded?) if you ask me...

Have attributed it to nerves being pulled, and have consciously took care not to be too excited when a babe walks past. Haven't happened in 6 years or so. :p

How old are you? It could be your blood pressure is too high or your arteries behind the neck is blocked. My father, 79yrs old, sometimes get that when he stands up too quickly after sitting down for too long. Check yr blood pressure during the game.
