who's practical joke is this? naming our favorite little feathery friend: shuttleCOCK?

if we want badminton to be taken serious around the world, especially in the USA, perhaps we should rename it to something that sounds better than that.

so please if you have any suggestions, list them here.

A new name for our feathered friend could be good, I agree though I always just call them "Shuttles"

Well, ball usually refers to a spherical object, which the shuttle unfortunately is not.

If we're throwing names out there, might as well be thoughtful!

I saw we call it the shuttleplume, since plumes refer to a bird's feathers

That way it stays true to the original name and meaning since "cock" refers to "the adult male of the domestic chicken" according to merriam webster.

    It's not too bad =p.

or just simplify it to "shuttle"

every other sports pretty much call their thingy ball.

    soccer ball
    tennis ball
    rugby ball
    foot ball
    base ball
    basketball
    hockey ball

ok. ice hockey they call it a puck, which frankly is ok, as long as it doesn't sound as bad as "shuttlecock".

so how come we cannot call it a badminton ball?

    or badminball?
