My usual grip size is G4, but for my new VT80 I purposely chose a G5 so that I could retain the original plastic wrap and apply the overgrip on it. This way I think prevent the perspiration from soaking up the wood. Anyone do it this way?

Yeah, except it doesn't work that well with G09 Elites which are only sticky on one side, the grip keeps slipping off so I stopped leaving the plastic on. Plus with my Victors, the two layers of plastic wrap really messes up the balance point so it's better to take it off.

This is the first time I've heard of a grip being made for Right vs Left hand. Can you explain it a little further?
When I grip my racket with my left hand (I'm a right handed player) I do not feel any "grain" difference? It's tacky no matter which direction I push the racket head.
In addition in my right hand I move the racket in each direction (forward, back, left, and right) thus pushing my hand against the grip in the 4 directions. There doesn't seem to be a difference in grain?
Are you referring to the direction of the overlap? If that's the case wouldn't you just wrap it clockwise vs. counter clockwise?
confused....but interested. Pls help explain.

^^ yeah, you just change the direction of overlap (clockwise vs counter clockwise)...
but it really only applies to those with OCD... like me..

I always invert my grips on my racquet.
This means that I require no tape. You basically start with the squared part at the bottom and then roll towards the cutoff part with the sticky part on it to the top...
Works fine, you should give it a try!
No scissors, tape and other crap required!

Trying to wrap on my racket for the first time.
Don't get it. If I follow the instructions on the box (Yonex AC102 EX) the grip will be for left-handed.
The side with the plastic is supposed to be OUT (correct?) and the straight part is supposed to be against the END of the racket?!
Feel really stupid, but I just don't get it.

Too much left??
Not sure about the end result. The top doesn't look to good, hope it sticks though.

Unless you particularly like it wrapped thinly like that, I would overlap half so that it'll be smoother, without ridges, and won't leave so much at the top. You can also cut off the excess too, or wrap up the cone/shaft.

Btw Just asking everyone, do we need anything put on the bottom of the grip to keep the wood safe? or Putting on 2 grips is fine? Because thats what I have been doing, where I just put an old grip on all my racket and then I put new one on top, so its not too thick or too thin ( Overgrip)

usually people use the plastic leftover from the replacement grip to cover the wood (so the glue does not stick straight away to to wood
putting overgrip or not is entirely personal taste
if you like it thicker than your normal replacement grip, then over grip (on top of replacement grip) is a good choice
if you like it normal, the stick with replacement grip
if you like it really thin, then go for overgrip on the wood
do you like how thick or thin it is? try it before putting the new one (so you know if you prefer thicker or thinner grip)
is it overgrip on top of the wood?
yes, we usually cut the excess

When I bought my racket I didn't know there are different thickness on the grip itself (I have a Yonex with G3). I have quite small hands so I don't want it any thicker than this.
How bad is it to have it the way I have done it, with not a lot of overlap?
Is it MUCH worse than going half way over?

I've always wrapped it the way you did but almost everybody else wraps it differently. It comes down to personal preference anyway and if you have small hands and a g3 grip you should be wrapping it thin.
