Hi. I leave my factory grips on my rackets and then use Yonex's super grap to grip over them. However, when I finish gripping my rackets, they feel big and squishy, as opposed to when my friends grip them, they are aren't as big and squishy. What am I doing wrong? I like the handle smaller. (I already try and pull them as tight as I can).
Do your friends use overgrips over the factory grips as well? How much overlap do you have? Are they using replacement grips (removing factory grips)? What is your rackets grip size? Yonex G3 or G4 or G5 (thicker - thinner) Victor G3 or G2 (thicker - thinner)
My grip sizes are Yonex G5 and Victor G2. I only put one yonex super grap over the stock grip. Are less overlap better than a lot of overlap in general? O_O
Here's a good video:
Any good videos you know of that I can view online? =] or maybe I should just tell them to grip it for me. Thanks.
The amount of overlap is up to user preference. I tried very little but now just do a normal half overlap. I find it fits my hand better while still giving me room to be a bit more manuverable. I use RKEP G09 overgrips on my Yonex G5 and Victor G2. I find the RKEP grip is thinner than Yonex super grap. Have your friends show you how to grip (as visor suggested).
Hmmz....the way the video shows is opposite what i've being doing always.....i would usually use the tapered end with the double-sided tape on the bottom of the handle rather than at the top....then the top portion i would cut it diagonally to taper it again
where've you been? this method has been around for a while... so you don't have to trim at all at the cone
there is another reverse method u need not trim at the start just take the cut thin strip side n stick to the shaft bottom n work it up to cone. u can cut it when u end it near the cone.
this is a good video but the thing is that if your grip comes with the brand or model, you cant do like this rite? the brand n model is be upside down.. n if u want it to be the right way up....it shd be considered good for left handed racket n not for right handed pls correct me if i am wrong
yes, all factory grips are wrapped for right handed comfort... try grabbing one with your left hand and you'll see that your fingers go across the "grain" of the grip instead of going with the "grain" with your right hand
My usual grip size is G4, but for my new VT80 I purposely chose a G5 so that I could retain the original plastic wrap and apply the overgrip on it. This way I think prevent the perspiration from soaking up the wood. Anyone do it this way?
Yeah, except it doesn't work that well with G09 Elites which are only sticky on one side, the grip keeps slipping off so I stopped leaving the plastic on. Plus with my Victors, the two layers of plastic wrap really messes up the balance point so it's better to take it off.
This is the first time I've heard of a grip being made for Right vs Left hand. Can you explain it a little further? When I grip my racket with my left hand (I'm a right handed player) I do not feel any "grain" difference? It's tacky no matter which direction I push the racket head. In addition in my right hand I move the racket in each direction (forward, back, left, and right) thus pushing my hand against the grip in the 4 directions. There doesn't seem to be a difference in grain? Are you referring to the direction of the overlap? If that's the case wouldn't you just wrap it clockwise vs. counter clockwise? confused....but interested. Pls help explain.
