Looking through the Swiss Open men's singles results I noticed a lot of 22-20 scores. The thought struck me: Who wins those games? Does the person who catches up to 20-20 carry on the momentum? Or do they slack off once they draw even? There have been ten scores of 22-20 in Men's singles, as of today. Of the players who reached twenty first, 7 lost and 3 won. This tiny sample suggests that the "comeback kid" carries the momentum through. If it were a true statistic, would it surprise anyone? Or does it ring true with your own experience?
your small sample suggests nothing... if it were a true statistic, i wouldn't be too surprised. you named momentum and it seems an appealing explanation.
I would say both scenarios are just as common. When the score is 20-20 no player really has the momentum anyway. It will be more about who can keep a cool head and just take the opportunity.
