is that "fundamental"? we still play in the same court, the same rackets, the same shuttles, still hit across the net, etc. there are changes, but one must think about how those fit into the requirement of "fundamental". thus i want the OP to clarify what he meant by fundamental, and through that process, the OP will likely realized what the answer might be.
by fundamental i mean for instance how high jump used to be done by people facing forward, and now its done by people going with their back towards the pole
high jump back towards the pole? is that done often enough to call it fundamental? how often is that even done? we hardly see it once a match with taufik in it. and almost never done without him. fundamental is defined as: - of or relating to essential structure, function, or facts
I'm talking about the sport of high jump. people used to clear the pole facing forward, but now the standard is to do it backwards. I'm asking if badminton has gone through any similar transformation of technique, in the last 10 years.
Perhaps the serve is fundamentally changed, now being more important due to the rally point system. Now it is more backhand than forehand in the past. To give less chance for attack from the start. And also now more mind games during the serve. Some players always putting up their hands to indicate they're not yet ready to receive and some servers who take an inordinate amount of time to serve. All this to throw off the opponent's rhythm.
that's a change. but hardly fundamental. and hardly something that happened in the past 10 years. more like in the past 20.
Ok, I know a better one. And it's thanks to the explosion of the Internet that brings us fanatic players together on forums like these, sharing, discussing and learning about the sport, equipment, techniques, pro players/matches, etc exhaustively. And with the internet also brings online commerce that allows us to purchase our equipment inexpensively without boundaries. For me, this has significantly changed my life of badminton... I know I for one am thankful for this. . (kwun, c'mon you gotta "like" this one! )
i beg to differ, actually. to answer this question, i went back to look at the footage of the 2000 Olympics MD final, and then compared to the recent AE and other SS finals. without looking at the scoring, i hardly see a change at all. (aside from the fact that they are different players, of course)
i think beside internet... the most important so far...is video recording.. of kwun..showing.....all those badminton stringing....stuff...... hee
I would just add that the strike point of the serve has crept up over the past ten years as a result of the rally system and importance of attack. I remember when it was your waist, now I constantly encounter players serving at their chest!
