I'm surprised not to find an Olympics thread anywhere, so I shall start one.

Anyone old enough to have heard this nice Korean song live?
Flo-Jo was magnificent in her wins.

The Coca Cola commercial for the Olympics that year. Another catchy tune.

Thanks to youtube, the moments of glory need not be relegated to a speck of one's memory anymore.

Flo-Jo was really fast.

Another glorious moment. The impossible is nothing.

Nadia Comăneci. A classic. But I would say the current gymnasts are pretty good too.

And who can forget the fastest man on earth ever documented.

Something about Korea and signing. Part of their 2018 Pyeongchang bid (I know it's the Winter Olympics but...)

Lol, you still suffering from the 2010 hangover?
I must say Vancouver will be a hard act to top.
These guys are winning hearts with their music again?
Charming, singing in English.
Oops, just remembered that Hand in Hand isn't a Korean song.
It was produced by Giorgio Moroder.

OK, I admit it. I have 2010 Hangover. I resorted to watching the Kim Yuna Ladies Free Skate last night. :p

Lol, so it was a one-sport Games for you then?
Hung around in the Richmond Oval the whole week?
It was an immaculate performance by her, that gold medal winning one.
Still have the recording in my DVR, I think.
Poor Mao Asada, she looked so distraught.
It must have been hard for her, having to cope with her mum's illness.
Here is a heart-warming tale of someone touched by the kindness of the Asada family:

http://www.japantimes.co.jp/text/sp20111214it.html

And excerpts from that article:

"My relationship with Mao and her mother began in early 2006, when they came to a Foreign Sportswriters Association of Japan dinner in Tokyo where Mao was accepting the award as the top Japanese athlete of 2005.
Even though the event was organized on short notice, there was a record turnout for the FSAJ that night, one that has not been equalled since, although many prominent guests have followed.
At the end of the evening, I could see that Mao's mother was clearly impressed by the warmth and love that had been shown to her daughter by the primarily foreign audience in attendance.
Mao and her mother were particularly taken by my daughter, Vienna, who was then three years old. At the end of the evening they told me, "Your daughter looks like a doll."
The dinner was on a Monday night, and that Saturday I was in the office when a delivery man appeared at my desk with a huge box over his shoulder. I looked up and thought to myself, "What is this?"
I said to the guy, "Who is it from?"
He took one look at the shipping form, and his eyes rolled back as he blurted out "Asada Mao."
"Really?" I replied.
I still remember lugging that thing all the way home on the train. When I finally walked in the door and plunked it down, my daughter was jumping with joy when I told her who it was from.
Her happiness soon turned into euphoria when she opened the box to find a huge array of stuffed animals. It doesn't get much better than that when you are three.
As she sat there going through it, I couldn't help being completely blown away by the gesture and the class of Mao and her mother. The fact that they came up from Nagoya for the event was nice enough, but now this.
"What a family," was all I could think."

Looking forward to the rematch in Sochi.
By the way, is Kim Yu-Na still based in Canada, or has she returned to Korea?

That's a lovely gesture from the Asada family.

Truth be told, Mao needs to be more than just a jumper to win.

Kim Yuna had an acrimonious split with Brian Orser a few months after the Olympics and now trains in LA. She's never regained that Olympic winning form since. You can google it–the incident was big news in Korea.

The Japanese figure skaters are technically very good.
There was another. They called her the jumping machine. Miki Ando.
I believe demolidor has a post that mentions her in some auction thing.

Sad. Haven't been following figure skating since Vancouver. She must have very good reasons for parting ways. Hope she can regain her form by 2014. Wouldn't be as much fun if there isn't a rematch.

Did you miss the chance to relive the Vancouver experience? Or at least partly, in Lethbridge?

Lethbridge?

Aside from the competition and the amazing vibe brought on by all the fantastic visitors, I clearly recall it being one of the warmest winters in recent history. It was 15°C the day I was supposed to go to the border cross event up at Cypress Mtn. Some of the temporary stands were deemed unsafe so we weren't allowed to use our tickets. Shame!

Had a great time at the medal ceremonies, especially the one which had Bare Naked Ladies performing after. We were right up front for that and were caught on TV quite a bit. Of course I looked a little looney. :p

Any female figure skater in their mid-twenties and thereafter who can do a perfect Bielmann is good enough for me.:D Unfortunately, only the young ones can tilt their head back (speaking of Kim and her looks:D) with ease without pinching a nerve or herniate a disc.;)

I guess you're not into curling? The Albertan town was the venue of the World Championships last week. Most of the teams who had partipated in the Vancouver Olympics were there, as well as a Korean team, which had 'cuties' sliding granite. They even managed to knock out their stronger Canadian opponents :D.
I find this sport rather interesting, and am amazed at the skill and precision of the players, how they can place the stones in a small target area from so far away.
The downside, however, being having to be goggle boxed for a couple of hours or more at least.

Yea, read about all the problems with the melted snow.

Fainted again, I suppose? Too much blood flowing away from the head? Must be supersized down there, lol.

She has paid a heavy price for all her immaculate toe loops. In a documentary Hip Korea featuring her life and shown just before the Vancouver Olympics, the poor girl was seen crying after she fell down too many times.

You were saying something about herniation ;)?
Good thing the Vancouver performance came out just perfect.

Ah, Lethbridge. Your clue was too cryptic.

I did watch go watch Olympic curling. The arena sat 5,000–very intimate but generated an incredible atmosphere. You would have thought you were at a hockey game. Was actually quite fun to be part of it.

Lucky you, you can just pop over to Cypress Mountain, or even Lethbridge.
Poor me, I had to be content with watching the non-HD ESPN for Vancouver, and the non-HD Eurosports last week.

Having watched artistic gymnastics, it being one of my favourites sports, for MANY years, I could not help but notice the strange looking tumble in the video that I had posted earlier (0.56).

It was partly a flip, and partly a cartwheel, and she looked dangerously close to breaking her neck on landing.

The gymnast in the purple and black leotard is the Russian Yelena Shushunova, and the event was in the Seoul Summer Olympics in 1988.

To illustrate how difficult it is to execute the manoeuvre, here is a video where she had failed (1.02), losing her place on the podium for the floor exercise event final.

And here is one (1.01) where it was done perfectly, and she was awarded a perfect 10.0, contributing to her gold medal win for the all around.

One section of this video is really cute.
Mao and Yu-na seem to be looking for each other telepathically (4:10).

"Yu-na, are you up there?"
