I just upped my tension to 24 lbs and i just read a article about how its gonna feel like hitting a feather with a board and im entering a tournament this weekend with feathers provided. Is this going to be a problem , and also what tension do you use and why?

You need to be more accustomed to the tension.

If i am about to increase my tension, i will make sure that i could clear from back to back really well, & most of the time the shuttle went out effortlessly. If you are having this kind of situation, you might increase your tension. Again, you should adjust your timing & feel to the newly strung racket. Entering a competition with a new string tension is the thing that i want to avoid, surely.

24 lbs of tension is not that high at all, so it wont feel so drastic like that article says.

i used cheap beginner rackets, then 24 lbs tension which droppped in time..now i used 26lbs and i think its a very appropriate tension for me.
24lbs shouldnt be a problem at all for you :)

It takes time to adjust, especially when increasing the tension.
Hitting harder takes more effort and risks half court shots if you are not used to it yet.

I would not use it for the competition without at least good 2 hour session with the new tension.

good article, and paul stewart is a reputable trainer / coach.
like the above posts have said, you dont want to change your tension before a meet or tournament becuz it will play different than what you're used to. however, after a couple hours of good play, a jump of 2 or 3 lbs in tension wont do you too much harm, especially ehen your initial tension is less than 25 lbs or so.

for instance i play at 25 lbs, i wouldnt dream of even trying 27 or 28lb just becuz theyre " only a few up from 25"

the tension in the article is grossly out of date.

these days most avg players plays at least 23lbs. professional are at least 30lbs.
